Final pattern of 2021! Can you believe we made it another year and another blanket? I am so, so happy to have this project done because it’s so very special to me. But before I start to gush about another year I hope you’re ready for this week’s new pattern – the Winter Holly Afghan Square.
So as I said in the first paragraph, this is the final square in this year’s CAL and wow, what a year it was… right? We’ve had a lot of ups and downs, globally and at home, and with it being the end of the year I’ve got a tons of feelings that I’m not really sure I want to share on my blog here. It’s been rough but it’s also been good at the same time. Crochet especially has been pretty good for me and I’ve grown and started to make more than I ever thought I would. And I am so thankful so many of you have joined me in this journey this year. It’s been so wonderful and joyful for me (even when it wasn’t). So thank you so much for that.

Now to talk about this week’s square. I don’t know why but I was having a huge block with this design and I could not for the life of me decide on what I wanted December’s to be. I had a Christmas tree in my head for the longest time but then I was unsure because I made a Tree for October. I love that tree, don’t get me wrong, but another tree? Would that be too much? But then *I think* someone suggested holly on Instagram and I was in love with the idea. I loved the vision I had in my head of the bright green leaves and the red berries. I thought it was a fitting tribute to the final month of the year and would add a night bright pop of color on this half of the squares. I’m so glad I decided on that because I love how they all look together. Very cohesive after all.

Like last year’s CAL I’m going to make a blog post about how I assembled my squares and a little more on what the project has meant to me this year. It’s also going to go into how I used the scraps from this year’s squares to make more c2c squares to bulk up the blanket like I did 2019’s blanket. Overall I’m so happy with this blanket and how it’s worked up over the year. My vision for a CAL changes and grows over the year and I’m so happy to look back on it and see that, from my own perspective. And I hope you enjoy it too! Check out the making of the finished blanket in this blog post.
Want more CALs? Check out last year’s 2020’s C2C Coffee CAL, 2019’s Coffee Tapestry Squares, and the 2018’s Tapestry Afghan Squares.

I hope you all are healthy and happy and like this new design. Please be kind to one and other, wear your masks, wash your hands, and be safe friends!

Please note: I was provided the yarn for this pattern by Lion Brand Yarn for the purposes of making the C2C Winter Holly Afghan Square, without compensation. I wasn’t provided the yarn with the expectations of positive or negative reviews but I did enjoy using this yarn, I’ve used it many times and it’s always a great worsted acrylic yarn.
