Happy October everyone! Can’t you believe it? It’s my all-time favorite time of year. I grew up in a Inter-Mountain State so I’m used to the leaves changing, maybe a bit of coolness to the air, and the bombardment of Halloween decorations. It just makes me all so happy. Which is why I bring to you the 10th square, the 8″ Tapestry Coffee Mug Afghan Square.
It’s also my birthday month, which always made me feel really close to October. It just gets me, ya know? Unfortunately it’s going to be a crummy birthday, I am sick today and quite crabby about it. Being sick sucks, all I want to do it lay in bed and crochet but I can’t because I’ve got work to do. :/
So… you might have noticed that this isn’t the second week of October but there’s a new #2018TSAP square. Next week I’m going to be taking part in a fun Blog Hop and so I decided to move up the square post to accommodate the date for the blog hop. I didn’t want to have too much working going on next week, so I just have one post instead of one on Monday and on Tuesday (that would have been too much work for me and I might have been crazy to attempt to get all those patterns ready for one week). Instead, you’re getting this post today.
I can’t believe it’s been 10 squares already! Can you? I have had so much fun that I’m already thinking of another CAL for next year, maybe something more geographic in tapestry squares. What do you think? I hope you’ve been having as much fun as I have with this year long project. Let me know what you think in the comments!

Materials
- US H (5.00 mm) crochet hook
- Aran/ medium/ size #4 weight yarn
- 1 oz. / 55 yards
- At least 6 colors
- I used Loops and Threads Impeccable
- Yarn needle
Gauge
- 16 rows x 15 scs = 4”
Terms/stitches used
- RS: right side
- Ch: chain
- St: stitch
- Slip st: slip stitch
- Sc: single crochet
Notes
- This pattern is worked flat back and forth in rows, with a turn at the beginning/ end of the row, from the bottom up.
- This square measures about 7.5″ unblocked and will come out with 8″ with a sc border (explained below). The photos do not feature a border.
- The ch 1 at the beginning of the row does not count as a stitch.
- Every stitch in this pattern is a single crochet. The directions will only tell you what color (ie: Color A, Color B, etc…) and the number in the parentheses tells you how many scs to make.
- The use of bobbins like they did on Hodgepodge Crochet is suggested for this pattern.
- Your square may need some light blocking.
- You will need to know how to create a slipknot on your hook for this pattern.
- In the example, the inactive yarn is carried behind the active. If this is confusing, you might want to check out the helpful Moogly video on tapestry.
- Color A is gold (Loops and Threads Impeccable in Gold), color B is off-white (Loops and Threads Impeccable in Aran), color C is pink (Loops and Threads Impeccable in Arbor Rose), color D is black (Loops and Threads Impeccable in Black), color E is white (Loops and Threads Impeccable in White), and color F is gray (Loops and Threads Impeccable in Pale Gray) .
