Wow, I can’t believe it’s the second to last square! I think I said that last month too, didn’t I? That I was just so surprised that this year has gone by so fast and that these squares are coming down to the end of the CAL. I have had a blast designing them and I really hope you all did following along. I’ve got a Cute Creatures 4-Pack coming out soon and then I’ll be releasing a Winter Fun 4-Pack next month that will be full of all my favorite things for the Winter season (think snowpeople, stockings, gingerbread people, etc…). I wanted to spread the 4-packs out more, not have them all toward later in the year but I got so off course with moving and everything I’ve been doing, I forgot. Oops! Well, I hope that still gives people time to have a bunch of squares done and assembled by the end of the year.
I’m actually dreading the assembly part. I have been making this project all year, designing my graphs and making my samples, but those are the fun parts! I don’t like assembly, maybe I could teach my hubs to crochet so he can do it for me. 😉 I doubt he would anyway. I’ve got a neutral color picked out that might look great or weird, depending upon people’s tastes. I just want it to blend all the squares together and make it one big blanket. With the three 4-packs you can have an afghan that has 24 different squares, arranging them as you’d like. I think I’m going to go chronological with the packs making out the outside. I don’t know. I think I need to think this through more, I just kept putting it off because the end of the year seemed so far away but now it’s almost here and I’m not sure. Ha! All the best laid plans of mice, right?
Let me know in the comments if you’re interested in a CAL for next year too! I’ll get thinking on what to make 😀

Materials

  • US H (5.00 mm) crochet hook
  • Aran/ medium/ size #4 weight yarn
  • Yarn needle

Gauge

  • 16 rows x 15 scs = 4”
    Ravelry link

Terms/stitches used

  • RS: right side
  • Ch: chain
  • St: stitch
  • Slip st: slip stitch
  • Sc: single crochet

Notes

  • This pattern is worked flat back and forth in rows, with a turn at the beginning/ end of the row, from the bottom up.
  • This square measures about 7.5″ unblocked and will come out with 8″ with a sc border (explained below). The photos do not feature a border.
  • The ch 1 at the beginning of the row does not count as a stitch.
  • Every stitch in this pattern is a single crochet. The directions will only tell you what color (ie: Color A, Color B, etc…) and the number in the parentheses tells you how many scs to make.
  • The use of bobbins like they did on Hodgepodge Crochet is suggested for this pattern.
  • Your square may need some light blocking.
  • You will need to know how to create a slipknot on your hook for this pattern.
  • In the example, the inactive yarn is carried behind the active. If this is confusing, you might want to check out the helpful Moogly video on tapestry.
  • Color A is green (Loops and Threads Impeccable in Citron), color B is teal (Loops and Threads Impeccable in Bright Blue Sky), and color C is white (Loops and Threads Impeccable in White).

Can I purchase all the patterns at once? This is the first I have seen these and would love to make them.

Not yet. Due to this project being a year-long CAL, I won't be releasing the last one until next month. When it's out, I will release a 12-pack with all of the squares in it. I do have the 11 that are out now available for purchase in my Ravelry shop and from January on, they have coupon codes for the next month's square. :D
