Did you know that where I live, in San Diego County California, Pride month is July? It is! Which is fun for me, because you know I love any excuse to bring out a rainbow. And this year, because I wasn’t done with all my rainbow makes I decided to keep the bright colors going into July with this week’s new free pattern, the Rainbow Coffee Coaster crochet pattern.
This coaster is based on a square I designed back in 2019, the Coffee and Rainbow Afghan Square, for my 2019 Coffee themed Blanket, and the sister design, Coffee and Rainbow Afghan Square, I made for the C2C Coffee CAL for 2020. All these designs are slightly different but they’re still full of things I love – coffee and rainbows. And I sure hope you love them too.
This pattern is a pretty easy but it does involve a lot of color changes. Of course, you can make this with just brown instead of a rainbow and a fun colored cup or you can change up the stripes (as you can see, my two coasters have rainbows orientated different directions) as you’d like but to keep the rainbow colors my biggest suggestion for easy color work – don’t turn your piece in a circle, instead go back and forth. Last month I posted some Reels on Instagram of me working up this pattern with the RS facing and with the WS facing to show you how I like to change colors (always on the last pull through) and the turn is where a lot of my tangled yarn happened when I first started color work like this. Basically, if from the RS facing you, you turn to the right at the end of the row, make sure when the WS is facing you that you turn to the left, so that the colors stay a bit more neat and tidy. I hope that helps and makes sense 🙂
Anyway, I hope you like this pattern and give it a try. Please wear and wash your masks and be kind to each other. It’s been a hard one these few years, we need solidarity more than ever <3
Please note: I was provided the yarn for this pattern by Lion Brand Yarn for the purposes of designing the Rainbow Coffee Coaster crochet pattern, without compensation. I wasn’t provided the yarn with the expectations of positive or negative reviews but I always enjoy using this yarn, I’ve used it many times and it’s durable and colorful worsted weight yarn. If you purchase yarn through any of the links in this post, I will be compensated.
