I love a pair of baskets, ya know? Because I’m a big fan of decorating in yarn and it is wonderful way to organize. And this week, to continue the “big year for baskets” I’ve got another cozy and fun pair of baskets – the Berry Stitch Baskets crochet pattern.

Like I said back when I released the Claire Basket, 2023 is big for baskets. Honestly I can’t stop making them. They’re like my other favorite home decor items: wall hangings, but you an keep your yarn in them. And honestly, storing yarn is very important. 😀

These baskets are pretty easy, tbh, and worked in one piece from the bottom up. I like the pairing of the berry stitches with the color blocks, I think it really draws the eye to the chevrons that are created by the berry stitches. The trick to these baskets is to make sure you ch 1 and turn, but don’t work back into the ch 1, just the first st. It keeps your seam from traveling and then your berry stitches line up.

Speaking of the berry stitch – you make it like this Insert hook into st indicated, yarn over, pull up a loop, ch 3, yarn over and draw through the last 2 sts on your hook. Push ch 3 to RS of work. Just make sure you do all 3 of those chs to maximize the “wow” factor of the bobble. You’ll be looking at the chs from the WS of the round, it so you want them to stand out, ya know?

Notes

Berry Stitch (BS): Insert hook into st indicated, yarn over, pull up a loop, ch 3, yarn over and draw through the last 2 sts on your hook. Push ch 3 to RS of work. Please note: make sure to do all 3 chs, and don’t make them too tight, in the ch 3 part of the stitch before you yarn over and pull through the final 2 loops. Without all 3 chs, your BS won’t have the texture you see in the sample photos.
The gauge is not super critical for this pattern, but to keep your sides standing use a hook that will get you the closest to the gauge as possible.
Each basket is worked from the bottom up in 3 sections: the Base, the Sides, and the Handles.
There are turns on each rnd.
The ch 1 at the beginning of the rnds does not count as a stitch.
For the Berry Stitch rnds, you will be working with the wrong side facing you and when you push the st you will push it backward while still looking at the WS, this so the back of the BS pops out when you’re looking at the RS. You can also tug on the BS from the right side to make sure it shows off the texture of the basket.
The sample in the photos was made using 2 skeins of Hue + Me by Lion Brand Yarn in the color Shadow (color A) and 2 skeins of the color Whisper (color B). Buy the kit from Lion Brand Yarn.
