Lucinda Basket Crochet Pattern by Divine Debris

Hi everyone! Happy first pattern of 2023 😀 It’s it exciting, a whole new year full of possibility and opportunities for joy (and yarn). And I’m kicking off the year with something simple, fun, and useful – the Lucinda Basket crochet pattern.

Now it’s no secret I love crochet baskets (see some of my other patterns here). I’ve made quite a few over the years, from ones with lots of color work to more recent ones that use bulky yarn (these are the best project baskets, I’m telling you). It doesn’t matter what they look like, I just love a good basket. I think it’s my desire to be organized… which is never fully realized, because I’m also just chaos sometimes. But still, I think these are a good little help when you DO want to try to be organized, which is a fabulous new year’s resolution.

And on to this new design – she’s made in the round from the bottom up. Super duper simple, I’m tellin’ ya. And the texture is an easy one because we’re using my favorite stitch, the hdc. But you need to make sure you’re turning after each round because if you don’t this design will not turn out right, that turn is what makes the texture really pop. So, I’m just saying you shouldn’t skip it.
I decided to make this basket one color but that was only after frogging it a couple times. It was going to be a 3 color basket but as I was working it up it didn’t work as well for me. I liked the simple light blue look for it. I think it looks like a nice happy winter design. But you can make it in as many colors as you’d like, I think it’d make a great stash buster. Or, as I have done as well, you can make the basket shorter and it’s a good little keeper of all the odds and ends you pull out of your pocket (I have one on a side table in my living room and it’s so handy).

So yeah, that’s the new Lucinda Basket crochet pattern. I hope you like this week’s new free pattern. I’ll be back in a couple weeks with a new one. I’m slowing down my production this year so it’s gonna be fewer designs but I think it’ll still be fun ones.

Size #5 bulky weight yarn
- 9 oz/ 280 yds
- I used 3 skeins of Hue + Me by Lion Brand Yarn in the color Ozone.
Notions: scissors, measuring tape, yarn needle

Gauge

12 hdc x 8 rows = 4.25”

Terms/ Stitches used

Sk: Skip
St: Stitch
Ch: Chain
Rnd: Round
Magic circle
RS: Right side
Sc: Single crochet
BLO: Back loop only
Hdc: Half double crochet
Join: Join rnds with a slip st

Notes

The gauge is not super critical for this pattern, but to keep your sides standing use a hook that will get you the closest to the gauge as possible.
In the basket’s texture the gauge is: 12 sts x 12 rows = 4”
Don’t make your slip sts (not the join, the ones within the rnds) too tight or it may make it difficult to work back into.
This pattern is worked from the bottom up in 3 sections: the Base, the Sides, and the Handles.
All sections are worked in the round with a slip st into the first st to join.
There are turns each round, except rnd 50.
The ch 1 at the beginning of the rnds does not count as a st.
The sample in the photos was made using 3 skeins of Hue + Me by Lion Brand Yarn in the color Ozone.
