More Halloween?
I don’t mind if I do. 😀 It is my favorite time of year after all. Although it’s a bit late for another Halloween design, this one could be an all-season-long accessory – the Dead Man’s Party Skull Scarf crochet pattern.
This time of year my go-to is usually the Gloria Ghost Scarf (it’s glow in the dark and who doesn’t love that) but this year I wanted a fun skull scarf to wear from now until February. It was just a desire I had in my heart and luckily I can crochet so I was able to whip one up in no time. And I had a lovely time using the extended single crochet to get the whole design a fun look (extra texture is always appreciated IMO).
I started this design like I do wall hanging patterns, using Stitch Fiddle to design a graph and then picked my yarn. I used a combination of yarns – Mandala (color A) and Basic Stitch (color B) and while I don’t usually do that, I think it worked out well. The pattern is worked in 1 piece, from end to end without fastening off. I usually use sc for color work like this but I was delightly surprised with how well the extended single crochet stitch allowed for tapestry – for the rows where both colors are used I carried and crocheted over the stitches (but not to the edges). If you’d prefer to use bobbins for color work like this, that’s fine, but for both techniques be sure to work back and forth and not in a circle to try to keep the yarn from getting too tangled – here’s a video on Instagram showing what I mean.
Below the graph is available to view, both of the first 52 rows and a graph of the repeat of Rows 27 – 52. This design uses a 26 row repeat and you can add or subtract repeats to adjust the length of your scarf. I prefer a long scarf (as I’ve said before in other patterns) but if you don’t, feel free to measure and only do the repeat until you’re happy. Also if you’d like to do the skulls all facing the same direction, you can too by repeating the rows of those skulls. I decided to have one section of skulls right-side up and the other upside down because that way when you repeat the 2 sections all the way across the scarf, the design mirrors itself without having to fasten off.
And in keeping with industry standards, if you’d like written instructions to this pattern you can pick those up in my Ravelry shop (it’s written in back and forth rows so it won’t help you with C2C). I separate patterns like this because I don’t make a ton off of patterns listed for free on my blog – I do have ads but with adblock type extensions, it’s not sustainable to make patterns with just ad revenue.
I wish you a happy Halloween season friends. I have said many times over it’s my favorite time of year and with the heat it’s been hard for me to find the “spoopy” of it all. I think I’ll watch the new Carrie series (who doesn’t love Mike Flanagan?) and make some soup and think about a stocking with a ghost one it. Maybe. Either way, I hope you like this week’s new pattern and take care of yourself and your community.
Please note: I was provided the yarn for this pattern by Lion Brand Yarn for the purposes of designing other patterns but I used the left over to make the Dead Man’s Party Skull Scarf crochet pattern, without compensation. I wasn’t provided the yarn with the expectations of positive or negative reviews but Basic Stitch is one of my favorite worsted weight yarns, it works fantastic for a everything.

Notes
- As is industry standard, this pattern is just a free graph and not written instructions but you can purchase the pattern for a fee in my Ravelry shop.
- Begin with a ch 36 in color A, turn, and start in the 2nd ch from the hook. Each row begins with a “ch 1, turn” and all st counts are 35 esc for the graphed portion.
- The odd rows are the RS.
- This pattern is worked from one end to the other, row by row with a turn at the beginning of the rows.
- This whole pattern is worked in esc, but feel free to change it if you’d like to a traditional sc.
- This pattern is very easy to adapt to smaller or larger as you’d like. I prefer a long scarf so I designed it for my length, feel free to leave repeats off to make it shorter.
- For the sample I carried color B behind color A in the rows where it was necessary.
- The sample in the photos was made using Mandala in Centaur for color A and Basic Stitch in white for color B – both yarns from Lion Brand Yarn.

Fringe
Feel free to add fringe as you’d like to the other side of Row 1 and to the final Row.
To match the sample seen here – cut 40 3″ pieces of color A and 30 3″ pieces of color B.
Arrange the yarn – 4 color A, 5 color B, 6 color A, 5 color B, 6 color A, 5 color B, 4 color A on both ends of the scarf (so they mirror each other).
You can pick up written instructions for the Dead Man’s Party Skull Scarf crochet pattern in my Ravelry shop.
