Yummy Pineapples

Wow, it’s April already. So, as I was preparing for this week’s free pattern, I had other ideas until a couple of weeks ago when my husband and I were out at a beer tasting and I wore a pair of pineapple earrings I had made a couple of years ago. I love my pineapple earrings, I think they’re super adorable, but my husband said they didn’t look like pineapples. I got compliments that night from people at the tasting, they thought they were just as cute as I did but my husband’s opinion stayed in my head. With his teasing in mind, I decided to make a new pineapple design so I could share it with everyone this week. And because I love that you can coordinate your earrings with an applique, I wanted to include both here for you today!

Materials:
Earrings:

• 2.00 mm steel crochet hook
• Size 10 crochet thread
  • Not even a oz was used
  • I used Aunt Lydia‘s
• Needle to weave in ends
• Fabric stiffener
  • I use Stiffy
• Metal jump rings
• Metal french hook

Applique:

• US G (4.00 mm) crochet hook
• Worsted/ medium/ size #4 weight yarn
• oz/ yards
• Needle to weave in ends

Gauge:

• G: 4” x 4” = 16 scs x 18 rows

Terms/ stitches used:

• Ch: chain
• St: stitch
• Slip st: slip stitch
• Sc: single crochet
• Hdc: half double crochet

Notes:

• The patterns are worked in two parts, base and the leaves.
• The base is worked back and forth, with a turn at the beginning of the row.
• The leaves are just ch sections, which you slip st into the same st.

Finished measurement:
Earrings:

• Base: 
  • Height: 1.5″
  • Width: 1″(widest)
• Leaves: 1.25″

Applique:

• Base:
  • Height: just over 4″
  • Width: 3.25″ (widest)
• Leaves: 4″ (highest)

Row 1: Ch 11, sc into the second ch from the hook and into the next 9 sts – 10 scs
Row 2: Ch 1, turn, slip st into the first st, hdc into the next st, *slip st into the next st, hdc into the next st,* repeat from * to * 3 more times – 5 hdcs
Row 3: Ch 1, turn, sc twice into the first st, sc into the next 8 sts, sc twice into the last st – 12 scs
Row 4: Ch 1, turn, slip st into the first st, hdc into the next st, *slip st into the next st, hdc into the next st,* repeat from * to * 4 more times – 6 hdcs
Row 5: Ch 1, turn, sc twice into the first st, sc into the next 10 sts, sc twice into the last st – 14 scs

Create a slip knot on your hook, skip the first 3 sts, sc into the next st, ch 16, slip st into the same st as you sced, ch 26, slip st into the same st as you sced, ch 36, slip st into the next st, ch 26, slip st into the same st you just slip sted into, ch 16, sc into the same st you just slip sted into – 2 scs, 2 ch-16 spaces, 2 ch-26 spaces, 1 ch-36 space, 4 slip sts
Fasten off, weave in all your ends.

Row 1: Ch 7, sc into the second ch from the hook and into the next 5 sts – 6 scs
Row 2: Ch 1, turn, slip st into the first st, hdc into the next st, *slip st into the next st, hdc into the next st,* repeat from * to * once more – 3 hdcs
Row 3: Ch 1, turn, sc twice into the first st, sc into the next 4 sts, sc twice into the next st – 8 cs
Row 4: Ch 1, turn, slip st into the first st, hdc into the next st, *slip st into the next st, hdc into the next st,* repeat from * to * 2 more times – 4 hdcs
Row 5: Ch 1, turn, sc twice into the first st, sc into the next 6 sts, sc twice into the next st – 10 cs
