Winter mug cozy patterns!
Do you like cozies? I do. I actually use my cozies for anything I drink from, especially my energy drinks because the cans are super cold. I especially do this because I like to be awesome when I leave the house and I rarely see people with cozies around their Monster cans. 😀
So, for you to enjoy I’m including four patterns that I’ve been working on for a couple of weeks now but I haven’t gotten around to posting because I’ve been so busy! Seriously, everyone, I’ve been so busy that I’m actually putting off reading for homework to make this post. My semester is over on Friday, which makes me so happy, but I have two more assignments due before then. Bah!
I digress.
Thank you to all my Patreon supporters.
Materials:
- White WW yarn for the snow people and penguin cozies – you don’t need too much.
- Puffy paint
- U.S. I crochet hook (5.50mm)
- Yarn needle
- Black WW yarn for penguin & snowman hat.
- 3 colors of WW yarn for Willow cozy.
- 1 color for the snowwoman’s bow.
- I used Red Heart Super Saver for all of these.
Terms stitches used:
- Ch: chain
- St: stitch
- Sc: single crochet
- Fsc: foundation single crochet
- Spike sc: spike single crochet
Notes:
- The snow-people and penguin are worked in rows, back and forth, which you seam the beginning to the end and the finishing is done after you seamed.
- The Willow cozy is worked in the round.
- You need to know how to work into the front and back loop of a stitch.
Snow-people:
Row 1: Ch 13, sc into second ch from the hook and across 12 scs
Row 2: Turn, ch 1, sc into BACK loop all the way across – 12 scs
Row 3: Turn, ch 1, sc into FRONT loop all the way across – 12 scs
Rows 4 – 7: Repeat rows 2 & 3 twice more
Rows 8 – 20: Turn, ch 1, sc across – 12 scs
Rows 21 – 27: Repeat rows 2 – 3.
Fasten off, weave in the ends.
Finishing:
Using a whip st closing, use back loop and loop on the other side of beginning ch to secure.
I used puffy paint to make the faces on both of the snow people. It was really easy, just make sure while the cap is still on you tap it point first on the floor or something so that you get rid of air bubbles that may make a mess. Draw the eyes, carrot nose and mouth on the flat portion of the snow people cozy body.
Hat:
Row 1: Ch 12, sc into second ch from hook and across- 12 scs
Row 2: Switch colors: skip 3 sts, sc into next 5 sts – 5 scs
Row 3: Turn, ch 1, sc across – 5 scs
Rows 4 – 8: Switch colors: Turn, ch 1, sc across – 5 scs
Fasten off, weave in the ends.
Bow:
Row 1: Ch 6, sc into second st from the hook and across – 5 scs
Rows 2 – 10: Turn, ch 1, sc across – 5 scs
Wrap a bunch of yarn around the center of the bow to create a squished center.
Fasten off, weave in the ends.
Penguin:
Row 1: Ch 13, sc into second ch from the hook and across 12 scs
Row 2: Turn, ch 1, sc into BACK loop all the way across – 12 scs
Row 3: Turn, ch 1, sc into FRONT loop all the way across – 12 scs
Rows 4 – 7: Repeat rows 2 & 3 twice more
Rows 8 – 20: Turn, ch 1, sc across – 12 scs
Rows 21 – 27: Repeat rows 2 – 3.
Fasten off, weave in the ends.
Face:
Row 1: ch 11, sc into second ch from the hook and across – 10 scs
Rows 2 – 8: Turn, ch 1, sc across – 10 scs
Row 9: Turn, ch 1, sc into next st, dc into next st, tr twice into next st, dc into next st, slip st into next two sts, dc into next st, tr twice into next st, dc into next st, sc into next st.
Fasten off, weave in the ends.
Finishing:
Using a whip st closing, use back loop and loop on the other side of beginning ch to secure.
Secure the face portion to the flat section of the penguin cozy body. If you only secure the sides and the bottom you can create a little pocket, for a tea bag or something. 🙂
Willow mug cozy:
Row 1: Fsc 28 (to make it smaller do 26, larger 30) slip st into first st to secure.
Row 2: Ch 1, sc around, slip st into first st to secure (26, 28 30 scs)
Row 3: Ch 1, sc into first st, spike sc into next st, repeat *sc, spike sc* around, slip st into first st to secure (26, 28 30 scs)
Row 4: Ch 1, spike sc into first st, sc into next st, repeat *spike sc, sc* around, slip st into first st to secure (26, 28 30 scs)
Rows 5 – 12: Repeat rows 3 – 4 four more times.
Row 13: Ch 1, sc into first st, spike sc into next st, repeat *sc, spike sc* around, slip st into first st to secure (26, 28 30 scs)
Row 14: Ch 1, sc around (26, 28, 30 scs).
Fasten off, weave in ends.
Well, I hope you guys like these patterns. When I find the time I’m going to put together a nice pdf four pack for the cozies. If you find any problems with them, please let me know! Have a happy week/weekend!
You can find this post on Hookin’ on Hump Day from Moogly and My Merry Messy Life. 😀
I love the snowman. So cute but not very apt as it is warming your cans up not cooling them! 😉
These are adorable. I’ve been making some mug cozies too.
These are so great. Will be making this all year long for everybody. Thank you for all the patterns share with us.
Looking fwd to making these. What kind of cup did u use in your pics? Thank you for all you share. Very talented.
Looking forward to making the Willow Mug Cozy BUT – how do you do the spike sc stitch – thank you – Shirley
It’s a single crochet you work into the stitch below, there’s a link above in the terms/ stitches. It’s this link: http://www.dummies.com/how-to/content/how-to-crochet-spikes.html
Your penquin cozy was perfect for my sister in law, I made a few changes, I followed your face design, then just sc the black right on to wrap around. I also sewed in the eyes and beek. I don’t see a place to post a pic. It will be on my Pinterest after I give it to her today.
You can add your photos, which I’d love to see, to the Ravelry listing for this pattern. 😀
