Free Phantom Fungus Wall Hanging Crochet Pattern – More Ghosts!

Make some cute Halloween decor with this mushroom and ghost design, the free Phantom Fungus Wall Hanging crochet pattern by Divine Debris.

Happy October my lovely friends. It’s my favorite time of year and favorite time to design – Halloween season. And this week I’ve got a new spooky season make that I really hope you’ll like, the cute ghost and mushroom Phantom Fungus Wall Hanging Halloweeny crochet pattern.

This design is the 3rd in my Halloween wall hanging series – with the first being Ghost in the Mushrooms Wall Hanging and the second being last year’s Blue Lagoon Wall Hanging and I love the trio of them. And, honestly, I didn’t realize until last year when someone pointed out that the first 2 designs were “fire and water,” which was nice because I was able to build on that this year with the “earth” ghosts and mushrooms design. And of course, I had to make it more mushroomy and more ghosty – 4 each! More than the previous years. It’s a good balance, I think and I hope you do too.

Like my other wall hangings this one is worked from the bottom up in rows of single crochets. With wall hangings, especially ones as colorful as this one, I like to use bobbins/ intarsia so I don’t have to carry yarn throughout the whole design. I just change colors on the final pull through of the stitch and carry the yarn up the back (drop it down the WS when not in use and pick it back up when I need it). It just keeps the design looking clearer from the front and the back stays a bit messy but no one really sees it so who cares if it’s not pretty.

As I’ve said in other posts, when working with many colors like this I always make sure to turn at the end/ beginning of the row back and forth (left, then right, then left, then right) rather than in a circle (left, then left, then left) which helps me keep all my bobbins/ yarn less tangled. Unfortunately, tangles can be unavoidable at times but like with all things, we gotta try our best. Right? 😀 Oh, and don’t forget to block your color work, it makes a world of difference. Especially with steam blocking, that uses hot steam/ water to relax the yarn. It’s what I use and that gets these designs as close to flat as possible. This includes the fringe.

Below the graph is available to view, that way if you’d like to make this as sc or hdc or dc you can do it… but you can also make it in C2C if you want to work the graph on a bias. And if you’d prefer you can knit, Tunisian crochet , and even cross stitch this design using the graph as well. It’s entirely up to you 😀 But, keeping with industry standards, if you’d like written instructions to this pattern you can pick those up in my Ravelry shop (it’s written in back and forth rows so it won’t help you with C2C). I know talking about money makes people uncomfortable but I split up these patterns this way so that people do have an incentive to pick up the pdf, it helps me to keep making patterns here on my blog. I hope you understand.

Overall, I do hope you like this week’s new pattern. I just love Halloween and making Halloween patterns. I wish I could do it year-round 😀

Please note: I was provided the yarn for this pattern by Lion Brand Yarn for the purposes of designing patterns other than the Phantom Fungus Wall Hanging crochet pattern, without compensation. I wasn’t provided the yarn with the expectations of positive or negative reviews but I’ve used Pound of Love many times for blankets and other goodies, it’s a fantastic yarn. Key: color A is orange, color B is green, color C is yellow, color D is tan, color E is brown, color F is red, and color G is white

Graph for the Phantom Fungus Wall Hanging free Halloween crochet pattern.

Begin with a ch 58 in color A, turn, and start in the 2nd ch from the hook. Each row begins with a “ch 1, turn” and all st counts are 57 sc.

Top/ Hanging
With color E, sew your wooden dowel or stick to your wall hanging (or sc into the last row across if you’d like).
For the hanger, ch 70 with color E and tie the ends to the first and last sts on the final row of the wall hanging.

Fringe (optional)
Feel free to add any details, such a fringe or surface crochet to customize your final
piece. I added fringe that corresponded with the colors on Row 1, that way it looks a bit like the color is bleeding down through the wall hanging.
