Can you believe another month has gone by? These monthly squares give me something to look forward to but… they also mark the second to last week of the month. They mean the month is almost over! I guess that’s the nature of life, eh? It all flies by us at a rate we’re never too happy with.
So… this month’s square is kind of a play on the squares I did last year. April was a rain cloud and last month’s was a coffee spill.

Naturally I decided to make this month’s a flower because May of last year was a daffodil, but I had to put a coffee spin on it. This design is supposed to evoke images of latte art – I’m sure many of you have seen the gorgeous designs the very talented people who make coffee can create with just a little foam and a cup of hot joe. I hope you like it! It’ll be a fun addition to your collection of squares, don’t ya think?
And don’t be surprised if you see a rainbow next month 😀

    Ravelry link

Terms/ Stitches used

  • RS: right side
  • Ch: chain
  • St: stitch
  • Slip st: slip stitch
  • Sc: single crochet

Notes

  • This pattern is worked flat back and forth in rows, with a turn at the beginning/end of the row, from the bottom up.
  • This square measures about 7.5″ unblocked and will come out with 8″ with a sc border (explained below). The photos do not feature a border.
  • The ch 1 at the beginning of the row does not count as a stitch.
  • Every stitch in this pattern is a single crochet. The directions will only tell you what color (ie: Color A, Color B, etc…) and the number in the parentheses tells you how many scs to make.
  • The odd rows are the right side.
  • Your square may need some light blocking.
  • You will need to know how to create a slipknot on your hook for this pattern.
  • In the example, the inactive yarn is carried behind the active. If this is confusing, you might want to check out the helpful Moogly video on tapestry.
  • Color A is off-white (Caron One Pound in Off-White), color B is green (Caron One Pound in Spring Green), color C is taupe (Caron One Pound in Taupe), and color D is cream (Caron One Pound in Cream).
