Learn to make the fun 2 color geometric inspired design, the Darling Diamond Square crochet pattern from Divine Debris

And so June comes to an end. I can’t believe how fast it went. Time just flies, especially as the summer heat sets in. And in honor of all warmth of summer, I decided to make a cute and easy coaster in the form of the Darling Diamond Square crochet pattern.

I’ve said it before and I mean it, I love coasters/ squares for breaking bigger projects. And the last few weeks I’ve been seriously focused on my new Mushroom Love Blanket but my brain needed a break. I needed to clear out all the mess and feel a bit more creative. And so I decided to make a new square/ coaster pattern, with the added bonus that I needed some new coasters for my new place. That’s a win win for me 😀

Using Stitch Fiddle I designed these squares to be made from the bottom up. Both colors are carried/ crocheted over throughout the pattern because I don’t like more ends than necessary. I didn’t carry/ crochet over the stitches on the very ends of the rows though, as it makes it easier to crochet the border into later. I hope that make sense. But also, find what works for you. 🙂

Below you’re going to find 2 graphs for the 2 different color combinations I did for the samples. Style 1 has color A as purple and color B is tan and Style 2 has the reverse. I flipped it just in case you wanted to make a 2 set like I did and maybe that would help you reverse the colors 🙂 The written instructions are the same, 2 squares reversed. It made it easier for me to make both squares, so I thought it might help other people making this pattern.

Anyway, I hope you like this week’s new pattern. For a while I’ve wanted to make a geometric design, something just 2 colors with lots of lines and angles. And as it developed it started to look more like a diamond, which is why I picked the name “Darling Diamond” and while I’m using this as a coaster, I call it a square because this would also be a great component of a blanket or even made in knitting. It could just be a fun general use design. And I have bulky weight listed in the pattern but the yarn I used for it is kind of a on the thinner side of bulky, like my Rainbow Layer Cake Basket, so you could definitely use a worsted weight yarn and it’d be just a bit smaller.

Thank you so much for visiting. I hope you like this week’s pattern 🙂 And have so much fun with color work this week.

Notes on carrying yarn on the Darling Diamond Square crochet pattern

For this pattern, I carried/ crocheted over both yarns across the square (unless it was just 1 or 2 sts on the end and I didn’t need the color on the next row). That makes the square thick and durable. Just make sure you’re changing colors on the final pull through of the new color.

Below is a photo of the WS of the squares so you can see what it looks like compared to the front.
