Hey everyone! Who’s already in the midst of back-to-school season? Are you excited or happy? It can definitely be a stressful time of year, but honestly when isn’t the year stressful?

Anyway, I’m still making a couple cute back-to-school designs before I moved onto my favorite time of year, Fall and Halloween season! I’m so excited to make and release all the patterns (and all the ideas) that are floating inside my head for that season, I really hope you all like it! But this week, to stay on task, is still back-to-school and I’ve got another fun tapestry project for you – the Crayons are Cute Bag, although if you want you can make this design into whatever you’d like – a blanket (by making lots of the motif below), a pillow, or a fun wall hanging – it’s totally up to you. I hope you like designs like that, I just like being able to see what people come up with from my design (just don’t write it down and sell it as your own design, please).

I do hope you like this design and to see what I’m up to with my Halloween and Fall designs, be sure to keep an eye on my Instagram or FB pages, I’m always posting photos there.

Please consider purchasing an ad-free downloadable pdf of this pattern in my Ravelry shop to help me to keep making patterns week after week. 🙂

Materials

Gauge

  • 18 sc x 19 rows = 4.25”
    Ravelry link

Terms/stitches used

  • Ch: chain
  • St: stitch
  • Slip st: slip stitch
  • Sc: single crochet
  • Rsc: reverse single crochet

Notes

  • This pattern is worked back and forth in rows, with a turn at the end/ beginning.
  • The ch 1 at the beginning of the row does not count as a stitch.
  • You can replace the chain row (row 1) with a foundation single crochet row.
  • Rather than changing, cutting, and weaving in the ends of all the colors, the yarn is carried through the bag in the photos. Here’s a great tutorial on color changes.  – In this pattern, the active yarn is worked over the inactive.
  • Also check out this post about tapestry crochet from Moogly, it’s helpful.
  • The instructions below are for one side of the bag you see here – with two crayons on it.
  • You can make this pattern into a bag (as written or different), a wall hanging (make only one side and attach a stick like in the Pumpkin Wall Hanging), a blanket (make many crayons), a pillow (like the Pauline Pumpkin) or whatever you can think of – just don’t write and sell a pattern based on my design.
  • Fastening off after each color change isn’t specifically stated below. Fasten off or carry the yarn as you would like depending upon what you’re making.
  • Color A is off white, color B is any color (pink, blue, yellow, and green), and color C is black.
