Happy October friends!
I can’t believe it’s almost the end of October and that this is my first pattern of the month. I haven’t really felt like crocheting (I have talked a lot about it on social media these days) so after the release of my Gwendoline Ghost Squares at the end of September, I decided I wasn’t going to push for more Halloween patterns this year. Instead, I wanted to make a wall hanging like this week’s Wild Mushrooms Wall Hanging.
I’ve been making mushroom designs for years now… or at least it feels that way. I think there’s something super cute and fun about the image of mushies and of course, I love that in real life mushrooms/ spores are so weird. Have you ever read about them? They’re super fascinating. Like, they’re not animal or plant but a secret 3rd thing! It’s wild. And some spores can even exist in space. Freaky. I love it 😀 And that’s why I like to make designs using them in my imagery.
Like nearly all my other wall hanging patterns, the Wild Mushrooms Wall Hanging is worked from the bottom up in rows of single crochet stitches. Using Stitch Fiddle I designed this pattern and this is a great stash buster (or at least was for me). I used a combination of 2 different brands, Brava Worsted and Pound of Love, to create the effect and really leaned into the bright vibrant of Brava Worsted for the pop of the teal and purple in the design. I crocheted this design in back and forth rows, with a turn at the beginning of the row. If you’re like me and you use bobbin’s for color work like this, be sure to work back and forth and not in a circle to try to keep the yarn from getting too tangled – here’s a video on Instagram showing what I mean.
Below the graph is available to view, that way if you’d like to make this as sc or hdc or dc you can do it… but you can also make it in C2C if you want to work the graph on a bias. And if you’d prefer you can knit, Tunisian crochet , and even cross stitch this design using the graph as well. It’s entirely up to you 😀
And in keeping with industry standards, if you’d like written instructions to this pattern you can pick those up in my Ravelry shop (it’s written in back and forth rows so it won’t help you with C2C). I know talking about money makes people uncomfortable but I split up these patterns this way so that people do have an incentive to pick up the pdf, it helps me to keep making patterns here on my blog. I hope you understand.
I don’t believe I’ll be releasing another pattern this month. It’s been a weird month for me and I’m going to be visiting family soon. Just busy, busy, busy. But I wish you a wonderful almost Halloween and a lovely Fall. Thank you so much for visiting. I hope you like this week’s pattern.
Do not make videos from my pattern, you don’t have permission even if this pattern is free.
Please note:I was provided the yarn for this pattern by Lion Brand Yarn and We Crochet for the purposes of designing other patterns but I used the left over to make the Wild Mushrooms Wall Hanging pattern, without compensation. I wasn’t provided the yarn with the expectations of positive or negative reviews but I love both yarns so much, they’re great for all sorts of patterns.

Notes
- As is industry standard, this pattern is just a free graph and not written instructions but you can purchase the pattern for a fee in my Ravelry shop.
- Begin with a ch 72 in color A, turn, and start in the 2nd ch from the hook. Each row begins with a “ch 1, turn” and all st counts are 71 sc for the graphed portion.
- The odd rows are the RS.
- This pattern is worked from the bottom up, row by row with a turn at the beginning of the rows. Finally, after blocking, you sew it to a stick and add any finishing touches you’d like such as surface crochet or fringe.
- The ch 1 at the beginning of the rows does not count as a stitch.
- I worked this design using bobbins/ intarsia the whole way. I didn’t carry the yarn across but you can if you’d like, it’s entirely up to you (might be bulky).
- Blocking is suggested for this pattern.
- In the photos: color A is speckled white (BW in Salt and Pepper), color B is gray (POL in Oxford Gray), color C is purple (BW in Orchid), color D is black (POL in Charcoal), color E is tan (BW in Custard), color F is teal (BW in Marina), and color G is white (BW in White). BW is Brava Worsted by We Crochet and POL is Pound of Love by Lion Brand Yarn.

Begin with a ch 72 in color A, turn, and start in the 2nd ch from the hook. Each row begins with a “ch 1, turn” and all st counts are 71 sc. Looking for written instructions? Buy them here.
Fasten off, weave in all your ends. Block if necessary.
Top/ Hanging
With color A (or any color you’d like), sc or sew your wooden dowel or stick to your wall hanging.
For the hanger, ch 80 with color B (or any color you’d like) and tie the ends to the first and last sts on the final row of the wall hanging.
Fringe (optional)
Feel free to add any details, such a fringe or surface crochet to customize your final piece.
I added fringe 3” long pieces of fringe (that are approx 1.5” looped) to the other side of Row 1.
I also added some stars to the wall hanging, in the gray open spaces between the mushrooms and tendrils.
