The Free Watermelon Coaster Crochet Pattern – A Juicy Watermelon!

Watermelon Coaster free crochet pattern by DivineDebris.com

I don’t want to start this post talking about how wild it is that it’s already July. I mean, it totally is… like, where did the year go? How is it half over? Oops, I almost did it. Anyway, because it’s now getting to the hot months here in California I wanted to make something that fits so perfectly in my Summer – the wonderful Watermelon Coaster crochet pattern.

Now, you know I’ve been a fan of tapestry crochet for years and even though I’ve moved away from it a little bit in the last little while, I still try to keep my skills up. That’s one of the reasons I made this coaster! It’s a great entry into tapestry, just a simple in the round pattern. It works up in no time and is a great stash-buster.

I do want to note – I didn’t work it as a traditional tapestry design. For the “seeds” I just did the one stitch and then fastened off. I didn’t want to carry the yarn through that section, I didn’t see it as necessary. But I did carry the yarn through the rind section – It was too many color changes not to. I like to bare all my secrets to you all, I hope it helps you create a great project.

So… anyway. This pattern in my head, helps me ease into the summer and fits so well with my other watermelon patterns – I didn’t realize how many I have! Maybe I need to make a watermelon sweater one of these days. I’ve already got bags, pillows, earrings, a cup cozy… hhmm… the possibilities are endless!

I hope you’re still doing well and being safe out there. This year as been stressful one, that’s for sure.

Notes

  • This pattern is worked from the center out in the round with a slip st into the first st of the round to join.
  • The ch 1 at the beginning of the rounds does not count as a stitch.
  • The instructions that read (2x + number) or a (number + 2x + number) means you increase (2 sts in the st) when it says 2x and sc into the number of stitches specified.
  • Your coaster may need some light blocking to make it lay flat.
  • In the example, the inactive yarn is carried behind the active. If this is confusing, you might want to check out the helpful Moogly video on tapestry.
  • In the photos: color A is pink, color B is black, color C is white, color D is light green and color E is dark green.

Finished product dimensions (measurements may vary by gauge and yarn used)

I love this pattern. I live off of my Social Security, so I can't afford to buy stuff for my family. These coasters will make a nice Christmas present for some of my family. Thank you so much.
