That’s a Sweet Shirt

The behind the scenes photo of the making of the Sherbet Shirt
Working on the Body section of the Sherbet Shirt pattern

Hello friends!
Wow, I am tired today. I don’t know if you follow me on Instagram but last week I went to Calgary for Our Maker Life and, wow, I am exhausted. It was amazing and such an experience, I’m so glad I went but now I think it’ll take me days to get back to “normal” around here. It took me so long to get moving this morning. I just kinda slowly peeled myself out of bed in a zombie-fied state. I think I need more coffee 😀
So, enough of my running around and visiting places, today is a brand new and fun shirt!
This last year I have been working pretty hard on learning how to design garments. I will admit, I’m still so very terrified of making garments but I’m getting more confident with each new pattern. Today’s new design is a summery take on my Sherbet Sweater I released in February. It’s a simple pattern, overall, and really not hard to customize. You can add more stitches to the first row (but keep the stitch count in even numbers) to make it wider, or you can add rows to make it longer. This design was a fun stash buster for me, which is why it ended up being a little crop-top-y. You can totally add more rows and make this longer or use more colors, it would look fantastic!
I can’t wait to see your photos! I hope you love this pattern as much as I did making it.

Terms/ Stitches used

  • RS: right side
  • Ch: chain
  • St: stitch
  • Slip st: slip stitch
  • Sc: single crochet
  • Hdc: half double crochet
  • Hdcc: half double crochet cluster

Notes

  • Hdcc (half double crochet cluster): (this stitch is worked into two stitches) yarn over, insert your hook into the first st, pull up a loop, yarn over, insert your hook into the next st, pull up a loop, yarn over, pull through all 5 loops on your hook, ch 1. This stitch is worked like a hdc2tog and a ch 1 that count together as one stitch. When working into this stitch, you will work into the hdctog and the ch 1 space.
  • This pattern is worked in 2 parts: the Shoulders and the Body/Waistband. The Shoulders are worked row by row with a turn at the beginning of the row. The Body/Waistband is worked in the round with a slip st into the first st of the rnd. There are turns every row of the Body. The Waistband is only worked with the RS facing you.
  • The ch-2 at the beginning of the rows on the Shoulders does count as a stitch.
  • The ch-1 at the beginning of the rounds of the Body hdcc rnds does not count as a stitch. (This helps to obscure your seam)
  • The ch-2 at the beginning of the Body rnds does count as a hdc.
  • The ch-1 in the band section does not count as a stitch.
  • The size in the photos is the SM/MD made in Stitch Studio by Nicole in Storybook Lullaby. Color A is yellow, color B is orange, and color C is green.
