Sunsets and Washcloths

Happy Monday again!
I don’t do it often, but like I said last month when I did a Monday post, when Marie from Underground Crafter asks if you want to work together you take her up on it 🙂

This time the CAL is a Washcloth/Dishcloth theme and I’m really excited to show this off. I tried out a couple different variations of this design before settling on this ray looking one. I love sunsets here in Southern California and I wanted to pay tribute to them in washcloth form.
At first I picked out the colors, got the yarn, and then started designing. I didn’t have more this just a twinkle of an idea in my head when I picked out sunset themed colors. The biggest issue, for me in designing this, was trying to find a way to almost blur the colors during the transitions but still make it a do-able design. I brought back the spike single crochet that I’ve used for my Willow Line and paired it with big blocks of color. I felt like the spikes would help to drag the color in a way that post stitches weren’t working for me.

It’s not a hard design and you could easily make this into afghan squares or even a cardigan if you keep increasing in the pattern, which I’d love to see if you do!

Anyway, I do hope you like this design and give this fun quick washcloth pattern a try!
See ya in July.

Notes

  • This pattern is worked row by row with a turn at the beginning of the row.
  • The ch-1 at the beginning of the row does not count as a stitch.
  • For this pattern you will need to know how to make a spike sc. It’s performed like a regular sc but you work around the next st and into the row below.
  • Your finished piece may require some blocking due to the spike sc. You can get it wet and lay it flat to dry or steam it with a steamer and lay it flat to dry.
  • In the photos: color A is yellow (Paintbox Yarns Cotton Dk in Daffodil Yellow), color B is orange (Cotton Dk in Peach Orange), color C is pink (Cotton Dk in Blush Pink), and color D is blue (Cotton Dk in Washed Teal). Less than an oz/ 80 yds of yarn was used for any of the colors.

Finished product dimensions (measurements may vary by gauge and yarn used)
