Meow-Shroom Moon Wall Hanging Free Crochet Pattern

Learn to make the Meow-Shroom Moon Wall Hanging from a free crochet graph from Divine Debris. Great for crochet, knitting, Tunisian crochet, cross stitch, or any fiber art.

Happy August friends! With Halloween right around the corner I’m ready to make some patterns for my favorite season of the year but… it’s not quite spooky season yet is it? And that’s why I decided to release this week’s new crochet pattern, the Meow-Shroom Moon Wall Hanging.

It’s been a big year for cats – in February I released the Cat Lady Bag and had such a great time I released the Cute Cat Squares also. Of course, the Cute Paw Print Square and the Cute Paw Print C2C Blanket (which works for cat and dog lovers in your life). And if you follow me on Instagram or Facebook you know next month I’ll be releasing the Cat Moon Rising Blanket (and another cat themed blanket that hasn’t hit the main feed yet). So what I’m saying is, lots of cats 😀 and that’s what inspired this week’s new release! That and my favorite, mushrooms.

Like my other wall hangings this one is worked from the bottom up in rows of single crochets. With wall hangings, especially ones as colorful as this one, I like to use bobbins/ intarsia so I don’t have to carry yarn throughout the whole design. I just change colors on the final pull through of the stitch and carry the yarn up the back (drop it down the WS when not in use and pick it back up when I need it). It just keeps the design looking clearer from the front and the back stays a bit messy but no one really sees it so who cares if it’s not pretty.

As I’ve said in other posts, when working with many colors like this I always make sure to turn at the end/ beginning of the row back and forth (left, then right, then left, then right) rather than in a circle (left, then left, then left) which helps me keep all my bobbins/ yarn less tangled. Unfortunately, tangles can be unavoidable at times but like with all things, we gotta try our best. Right? 😀 Oh, and don’t forget to block your color work, it makes a world of difference. Especially with steam blocking, that uses hot steam/ water to relax the yarn. It’s what I use and that gets these designs as close to flat as possible. This includes the fringe (which I did in 2 rows here), that helps to make it tidy.

Below the graph is available to view, that way if you’d like to make this as sc or hdc or dc you can do it… but you can also make it in C2C if you want to work the graph on a bias. And if you’d prefer you can knit, Tunisian crochet , and even cross stitch this design using the graph as well. It’s entirely up to you 😀 But, keeping with industry standards, if you’d like written instructions to this pattern you can pick those up in my Ravelry shop (it’s written in back and forth rows so it won’t help you with C2C). I know talking about money makes people uncomfortable but I split up these patterns this way so that people do have an incentive to pick up the pdf, it helps me to keep making patterns here on my blog. I hope you understand.

Overall, I do hope you like this week’s new pattern. It was a joy to make. Color work like this is a bit complicated but if you take your time and go slow (and change colors on the final pull through and block your finished piece) you can definitely make this. I swear, if I can do it anyone can. Thank you so much for checking out this pattern.

Please note: I was provided the yarn for this pattern by Lion Brand Yarn for the purposes of designing patterns other than the Meow-Shroom Moon Wall Hanging crochet pattern, without compensation. I wasn’t provided the yarn with the expectations of positive or negative reviews but I’ve used Pound of Love many times for blankets and other goodies, it’s a fantastic yarn. Begin with a ch 66 in color A, turn, and start in the 2nd ch from the hook. Each row begins with a “ch 1, turn” and all st counts are 65 sc.

Top/ Hanging
With color A, sew your wooden dowel or stick to your wall hanging (or sc into the last row across if you’d like).
For the hanger, ch 70 with color A and tie the ends to the first and last sts on the final row of the wall hanging.

Fringe (optional)

Feel free to add any details, such a fringe or surface crochet to customize your final
piece. I added 2 layers fringe to the other side of Row 1 in sections of 6 pieces of each color in 2 sections with white in the center of only 5 pieces. Then a layer of color A along the front.
If your fringe and wall hanging don’t lay flat, I find steam blocking helps.
