It’s the Power of the Flower

Hi friends!
How’s your week going? I had a long, long night on Sunday night working at my retail job and that really made my Monday long and exhausting too. I don’t talk about it a lot, but I think it’s important that creatives talk about our lives, which includes (for most of us at least) that we have a job (or 2 or 3) because all the patterns I made here don’t support my family. I love doing it, don’t get me wrong, but my patterns are free on my blog because I have ads here and I have pdfs available in my Ravelry shop, which both help to pay for the blog and more yarn. So, what I’m saying is, make sure you’re sharing links to blog posts and buying patterns when you can (and I don’t mean for me, any creative!). Help a designer out <3

So… now that I got that out, how about we talk about this week’s pattern?! I had so much fun making my Starburst Purse that I turned around and made another purse. I kinda wanted to compare the two, show off how you can do similar color blooming from the center/flower designs but they don’t have to be the same. I just love all the things yarn can do, don’t you?
I can’t wait to see your photos!

Materials

  • US G (4.00 mm) crochet hook
  • Aran/ medium/ size #4 weight yarn
    • 3.5 oz
    • 2 – 5 colors (you can do as few or as many colors as you want)
    • I used Bernat Super Value
  • Needle that will weave in your ends

Gauge

  • 18 sc x 21 rows = 4”

Terms/ Stitches used

  • Rnd: round
  • RS: right side
  • Ch: chain
  • St: stitch
  • Sc: single crochet
  • Slip st: slip stitch
  • Hdc: half double crochet
  • HdcC: half double crochet cluster (explained below)
  • Tr: treble crochet
  • Bptr: back post treble crochet
  • Picot

Notes

  • HdcC (half double crochet cluster): yarn over, insert hook into specified stitch, yarn over, pull up a loop, yarn over, insert hook into the same stitch, yarn over, pull up a loop, yarn over, pull through all 5 loops on your hook. This is basically a hdc2tog done in one stitch.
  • This pattern is worked in the round, from the center out, with a slip st into the first st of the round. This pattern is worked in 4 sections: the Front, the Back, the Securing/Straps, and the Tendrils.
  • The ch-1 at the beginning of the rounds does not count as a stitch.
  • The Front and Back pieces are not the same (unless you’d like them to be). The Front has the texture but the Back does not.
  • On the Front and Back pieces only have turns on some rounds.
  • On the Front theodd rnds are the right side.
  • When working the bptr stitches, remember to skip a stitch on the row you’re working (as noted in the pattern).
  • The Strap is made of rows of chains. After you sc both the Front and Back together in the Securing section you will chain 130 chains and the slip st into the first st of the Securing section. To complete the Strap section you will chain 130 back and forth from the first and last st of the Securing section.
  • In the photos, color A is yellow (random stash color), color B is light pink (Bernat Super Value), color C is darker pink (Bernat Super Value) , color D light green (Bernat Super Value) , and color E is dark green (Bernat Super Value) .

Tendrils

To add a little something extra, I added some tendrils to one side of the Strap using the same instructions as I made for my Pauline Pumpkin Ami. This just optional, you can add as many or as few tendrils as you’d like.

Row 1: Ch 18, create a picot with the final ch 3, and hdc 3 times into the next st, *hdc twice into the next st, hdc 3 times into the next st,* repeat from * to * 6 more times across – 38 hdcs
Fasten off leaving a long tail and use the tail to secure your tendril to your bag.

There it is! There’s the Lilypad Purse. I hope you love it and use the hashtag #DivineDebris on Instagram so I can find your posts and share them in my stories!
