Free Cute Ghost Coaster Crochet Pattern – Summerween Special

Learn to make the fun, silly, and definitely playful Cute Ghost Coaster from a free graph by Divine Debris. Great for crochet, knitting, cross stitch, and any graph based fiber art.

Happy Summerween! Or as I often call it, Halloween in July. It’s a fun time of year where I like to pretend it’s not so, so hot outside and dream of Fall fragrances and Halloween decorations. And for the month of July there’s a 40% off sale in my Ravelry shop for Halloween and Fall themed decor (just add to cart to see the price). And just in case you need more Summerween, I decided to make something new – the Cute Ghost Coaster crochet pattern.

I love coasters/ squares for breaking bigger projects. I am currently finishing up a new blanket pattern for next week (my Mushroom Love C2C Blanket) and decided to make a coaster design to inspire people to make some Fall or Halloween inspired designs. And the Cute Ghost Coaster was especially inspired by the Smiling Ghost Coaster that was surprisingly loved last Fall.

Just like the Smiling Ghost Coaster, I used Stitch Fiddle to design these bottom up 2 color coasters. Both colors are carried/ crocheted over throughout the pattern because I don’t like more ends than necessary. I didn’t carry/ crochet over the stitches on the very ends of the rows though. As you can see in the design, the ghost is in the center of the rectangle so the edges are just made in Color A, by itself. I drop color B down the back and pick it back up as I work the rows of single crochet back and forth. There’s a photo further in the post here of what the back looks like (spoiler: it’s basically the same, just flipped). But remember, do what works for you when it comes to crochet 😀

Below you’re going to find 2 graphs for the 2 different color combinations I did for the samples. Style 1 has color A as green and color B is white and Style 2 color A is tan and color B is white, I wanted to go a little non-traditional for Halloween… Because Halloween and spooky decor can be used all year long, especially if you use fun earth tones. I included both just in case you wanted to make a 2 set like I did and maybe that would help you reverse the colors 🙂 The written instructions are the same, 2 squares reversed. It made it easier for me to make both squares, so I thought it might help other people making this pattern.

Anyway, I hope you like this week’s new pattern and are inspired to start some Halloween designs. Getting started early is the crafter way. Or start late and say to yourself “oh, this way I’m super ready for next year.” I guess that depends on what kind of crocheter you are 😀

Thank you so much for visiting. Take care of yourselves out there with the heat. Stay cool and hydrated.

Please note: I was provided the yarn for this pattern by Lion Brand Yarn for the purposes of designing the Mushroom Love Blanket, with compensation, but this yearn was left over so I used it for this project. I wasn’t provided the yarn with the expectations of positive or negative reviews but been using Pound of Love for years, it’s a fantastic worsted weight yarn. This post contains affiliate links. If you purchase yarn through any of the links in this post, I may be compensated. And do not make videos using my patterns.

  • As is industry standard, this pattern is just a free graph and not written instructions but you can purchase the pattern for a fee in my Ravelry shop.
  • Forward crab stitch (fcs): Insert your hook into the stitch, pull up a loop, turn your hook clockwise once so you twist the stitch, yarn over, pull through the 2 loops on your hook. Also called a Twisted Single Crochet. This stitch is like a crab stitch, only you work it forward.
  • These squares are worked from the bottom up in rows, with a chain and turn at the beginning of the row.

  • The ch 1 at the beginning of the rows does not count as a stitch.
  • Blocking is suggested for this pattern.
  • The odd rows are the right side.
  • This whole pattern is worked in sc.
  • Colors in style 1 coaster: Color A is green, color B is white, and color C is tan. Pound of Love by Lion Brand Yarn was used for all the colors.

Notes on carrying yarn on the Cute Ghost Coaster crochet pattern

For this pattern, I carried/ crocheted over both yarns across the square (unless it was just the 1 color on the end stitches, and then I dropped color B until I needed it on the next row). That does make the square thick and durable in the space where both colors are used. Just make sure you’re changing colors on the final pull through of the new color and pull the carried yarn tight but not enough to distort the image.

Below is a photo of the WS of the squares so you can see what it looks like compared to the front.
