How’s your December going my friends? It’s cold but I’m snuggled under a crochet blanket (the Cat Moon Rising Blanket for the record) so it’s not bad. But it’s the holidays and that means we’re looking for quick gifts, right? Well, I’ve got one for you this week! The Cute Cup Ornament crochet pattern.
If you’ve been a follower for a while you may remember Stitch Together. It was a group of designers and me that worked together for monthly crochet-a-longs. It was a lot of fun and we worked together for years but at the end of the day, it was a lot of work. Most of us weren’t able to fit in an additional design or more in them month toward the end and while we loved it, we couldn’t keep it going. And this week’s new pattern is from one of our CALs.
This pattern is from a Christmas Ornament Collection we published in 2021 and then forgot about it. Oops! And the listing on Ravelry never got an update. No link, no pdf, nothing when we closed down the Stitch Together website. In fact, I don’t even have these ornaments ornaments anymore, they ended up as gifts for my family 😀 But while I was putting together a sale for Black Friday last month I saw the listing on Ravelry and thought this pattern shouldn’t disappear forever. I should get the pattern together and share it on my blog.
And here it is! And it is so easy. Just 2 cups (make in rows from the bottom up), that are decorated (as you’d like with snowflakes or puffy paint) and then secured with a slip st or sc row. If you add some stuffing between cups it adds a nice bit of 3D fun to it, which would make it perfect for a tree. Or a garland! Now that would be adorable. Or make it with size 1 thread and make them into earrings. Man, I wish I had done that.
Anyway, I am so glad to finally be able to offer this pattern and I hope you like it. It’s super simple and infinitely customizable in colors and decor to fit your home design. And I hope your holiday season isn’t super stressed and hard.
Please note: I was provided the yarn for this pattern by We Crochet for the purposes of designing this pattern for the Stitch Together CAL. I wasn’t provided the yarn with the expectations of positive or negative reviews but I really like this yarn. I haven’t used this yarn much but it’s lovely and works up so nicely.

- This pattern is worked in 2 pieces to give it a 3D effect.
- First the individual cups are worked (you make 2) and then with a contrasting color you can “draw” snowflakes on your cup with your needle on one cup. Then you sew the 2 cups together as you’d like, placing a bit of stuffing between to puff up the center.
- The ch 1 at the beginning of the rows does not count as a stitch.
- There is no right side for the cups, just make sure your handles line up when you seam them.
- Feel free to customize your cup with any surface crochet or puffy paint (optional).
- The colors in the photos: color A is pink or blue and color B is cream. Comfy Worsted by We Crochet was used.

Cute Cup Ornament Crochet Pattern
Cup (make 2)
Row 1: With color A, ch 10, sc into the 2nd ch from the hook and across — 9 sc
Row 2: Ch 1, turn, sc twice into the first st, sc into the next 7 sts, sc twice into the last st — 11 sc
Row 3: Ch 1, turn, sc twice into the first st, sc into the next 9 sts, sc twice into the last st — 13 sc
Row 4: Ch 1, turn, sc twice into the first st, sc into the next 11 sts, sc twice into the last st — 15 sc
Rows 5 – 17: Ch 1, turn, sc across — 15 sc
Do not fasten off, rotate your Cup 90° to the right so you’re working along the row ends for the Handle.
Handle
Slip st into the next 3 rows, ch 11, skip the next 11 row ends, slip st into the next row end (this will be 3 rows from the bottom of the Cup).
Row 1: Ch 1, turn, sc 15 times around the ch-11 until you get back up towards the top of the Cup, slip st into the Cup over where you started the ch-11 — 15 sc
Row 2: Ch 1, turn, sc once into the next 4 sts, sc twice into the next 2 sts, sc into the next 9 sts, slip st into the Cup over where you ended the ch-11 — 17 sc
Fasten off, weave in your ends. Make a 2nd Cup and Handle.
Decoration
Before you seam together your 2 cups, you can draw on some little snowflakes or stars as you’d like by using a contrasting color and your needle, going back to front on the body of the Cup. You can also use surface crochet or even fabric paint to decorate your cup.
Seaming
Line up your two cups so that the Handles match and using your preferred method of seaming, seam along the edge of the cup and the 2nd row of the Handle to secure. I used slip st to secure the 2 pieces, it added some extra texture and opportunity for contrast. Be sure to add a bit of stuffing in between the Cups to add a 3D look to your ornament.
Add a loop next to the handle to hang the ornament from if you’d like.
