Concentric Squares Throw free C2C crochet pattern by DivineDebris.com

Oh, it feels like forever since I started on this project. I got the idea some months back and knew I wanted it to be my favorite new Fall blanket. My first mention of this looks like it was back in August on my Instagram account and, well, I’m so glad that the Concentric Squares Throw Blanket pattern is now out!

As I said in January, when I started my Coffee Squares C2C, I just fell in love with C2C and I knew I wanted to make more things in the technique. It took me a few months but that’s how I came to dream up the Concentric Squares Throw. It’s another design, like last year’s Divine Diamonds Blanket or February’s Linen Log Cabin Square, that’s quilt inspired. There’s nothing quite like a cozy quilt, ya know?

Now I made this design as a fun and cute 2 color blanket but I also see this as a great stash-buster. Just think of all the colors you could make it in! All one color but different shades? I do have so much blue in my stash, I think that’d really work out. Hhmmm… Maybe I should adapt this to a pillow case. Oh, always making ideas!

Either way you color it, I hope you love this blanket. It’s a fun and easy design to work on as you’re watching Great British Bake Off for the 20th time this year (or maybe that’s me who needs some good comfort tv). It might not be blanket weather where I live but it doesn’t mean I don’t love making them.

Materials

US G (4.00 mm) crochet hook
Size #4/ worsted/ medium weight yarn
- 2 colors
- Approx 1.2 oz/ 58 yds each square
  - .7/ 34 yds for color A, .5/ 24 yds for color B
- Specifics in the Notes
- I used Lion Brand Basic Stitch Anti-Pilling in Gold Heather and Ecru.
Notions: scissors, measuring tape, yarn needle

Gauge

6 squares x 6 rows = 4” (blocked)

Terms/ Stitches used

St: stitch
Ch: chain
Sc: Single crochet
Block: the 3 DC blocks for the C2C

Notes

As is industry standard, this pattern is just a free graph and not written instructions but you can purchase the pattern for free in my Ravelry shop.
This is a C2C pattern worked from the bottom right corner to the top left corner.
This pattern is a square, so you don’t have to worry about increasing on one side and decreasing on the other.
Each C2C block consists of 3 double crochets and a ch-3. The directions will only tell you what color (ie: Color A, Color B, etc…) and the number tells you how many blocks to make.

You will need to know how to change colors in a C2C for this pattern.
Rows 1 – 12 you will be increasing and rows 13 – 23 you will be decreasing.
The even-numbered rows are worked down and the odd-numbered rows are worked up.
The odd-numbered rows are the Right Side.
In the photos: Color A is gold (Lion Brand Yarn Basic Stitch Anti-Pilling in Gold Heather .7 oz/34 yds), color B is cream (Lion Brand Yarn Basic Stitch Anti-Pilling in Ecru .5 oz/24 yds).

Seaming

Check out this photo tutorial on how to I like to seam C2C.

For the first square you will create a border that subsequent squares are joined to: with the RS facing you, create a slipknot on your hook (this will make your first sc a standing st, if you’d rather pull up a loop and ch 1 to create your sc you can), sc into the first st on the corner (this can be a ch-3 space or a dc), [ch 3 and skip the next block,*sc into the space between the blocks, ch 3 and skip the next block,* repeat from * to * across until you get to the last block, sc into the last st of the block, ch 3, sc into the same st as the last sc,] repeat from [ to ] twice more, ch 3 and skip the next block, *sc into the space between the block, ch 3 and skip the next block,* repeat from * to * across until you get to the last block, sc into the last st of the block, ch 3 and slip st into the first st. Fasten off, weave in your ends and block your square if desired.

For the 2nd afghan square and on: with the RS facing you line up the new square with the square or squares you want to join it to. Repeat the instructions for the first square until you get to the edge or edges where you want to join your squares.

Starting at the corner: sc into the last st of the block, ch 1, slip st into the corner ch-3 of the square you’re joining to, ch 1, sc into the same st as the last sc, *ch 1, slip st into the next ch-3 of the square you’re joining to, ch 1, skip the next block, sc into the space between the blocks,* repeat from * to * the rest of the way down the side. If you’re joining multiple squares, repeat the corner and side instructions until you get back to your first st, join with a slip st.

Fasten off, weave in your ends and block your square if desired.
