Happy Tuesday everyone!
I can’t believe it’s new coffee square day again! It came up so fast.
So this month’s design is in honor of that tradition of September, back-to-school season. I loved school, especially as I got older and had more freedom about what I was able to study. College was a lot of fun for me for that very reason (learned so much about all the people who tend to get left out of history books). So I wanted to bring some fun bookish-ness to this month’s square.
I’m sure you could tell, I took some more artistic liberties with this square. I mean, that book is so tiny compared to that big ol’ cup but that was deliberate because I worked up this design with the smaller cup and it looked so sad and lost in all that empty space. Ha! I actually was a little worried over how different the sizes are in these. I do want people to like the squares and worry when I get too weird. But I promise there’s good reasons for the things I do. 😀
Also, this square is not an endorsement for putting coffee cups on books. Love books. Appreciate books. Tread books kindly. Ok, PSA over. 😀
I hope you like this design and make one (or a whole blanket full for those bibliophiles in your life).
Next month’s square is going to be Halloween themed 😀

Materials
- US H (5.00 mm) crochet hook
- Aran/ medium/ size #4 weight yarn
- 1.2 oz. / 60 yards
- At least 5 colors
- I used Caron One Pound
- Yarn needle
Gauge
Terms/ Stitches used
- RS: right side
- Ch: chain
- St: stitch
- Slip st: slip stitch
- Sc: single crochet
Notes
- This pattern is worked flat from the bottom up, back and forth in rows, with a turn at the beginning/end of the row.
- This square measures about 7.5″ unblocked and will come out with 8″ with a sc border (explained below). The photos do not feature a border.
- The ch 1 at the beginning of the row does not count as a stitch.
- Every stitch in this pattern is a single crochet. The directions will only tell you what color (ie: Color A, Color B, etc…) and the number in the parentheses tells you how many scs to make.
- Your square may need some light blocking.
- You will need to know how to create a slipknot on your hook for this pattern.
- In the example, the inactive yarn is carried behind the active. If this is confusing, you might want to check out the helpful Moogly video on tapestry.
- Color A is off-white (Caron One Pound in Off-White), color B is black (Caron One Pound in Black), color C is white (Caron One Pound in White), color D is gray (Caron One Pound in Medium Gray Mix), color E is blue (Caron One Pound in Ocean), color F is pink (Caron One Pound in Dark Pink), and color G is brown (Caron One Pound in Espresso).

Nope, looks like I just added the "fasten off" after the wrong row and forgot to update it

So cute! don't worry about the size of the book, if anyone says anything negative you tell them the book is one of those old fashioned poetry books that women carried around in their reticules. I love your coffee squares! Ana
