Warning! These earrings will get numerous compliments and you’ll probably be asked to make some for nearly everyone you know. One of my favorite things about these earrings is how much fun it can be to customize the earrings for any season or holiday. As you can see in the photos, you can use buttons as a decoration or use puffy paint to add sprinkles.

Materials: 

• 2.00 mm crochet hook
• Size 10 crochet thread
  • I used Aunt Lydia‘s or DMC floss
• Needle that will weave in your ends
• Fabric stiffener (optional)
• Jump rings
• Metal french hooks
• Jewelry pliers
• Puffy paint (optional)

Gauge:

• 8 scs x 8 rows = 1″ x 1″

Terms/ stitches used:

• Ch: Chain
• St: Stitch
• Slip St: Slip Stitch
• Sc: Single Crochet
• Sc2tog: Single Crochet 2 Stitches Together

Notes:

• The ch 1, at the beginning of the rows does not count as a stitch.
• This pattern is worked back and forth with a turn.
• Just pull up a new color at the beginning of the row if it’s another color.
• Color A is the bottom and color B is whatever color you want the top to be.

Finished measurements:

• Height: just over 1″ (not including jump rings)
• Width: 1.25″ (not including jump rings)

Pattern instructions:

Row 1: A: Ch 8, sc into the second ch from the hook and across – 7 scs
Row 2: Ch 1, turn, sc twice into the first st, sc into the next 5 sts, sc twice into the last st – 9 scs
Row 3: Ch 1, turn, sc twice into the first st, sc into the next 7 sts, sc twice into the last st – 11 scs
Row 4: Ch 1, turn, sc across – 11 scs
Fasten off color A.
Row 5: B: Ch 1, turn, sc twice into the first st, sc into the next 9 sts, sc twice into the last st – 13 scs
Row 6: Ch 1, turn, sc across – 13 scs
Row 7: Ch 1, turn, sc2tog the next 2 sts, sc into the next 9 sts, sc2tog the next 2 sts – 11 scs
Row 8: Ch 1, turn, sc2tog the next 2 sts, sc into the next 7 sts, sc2tog the next 2 sts – 9 scs
Row 9: Ch 1, turn, sc2tog the next 2 sts, sc into the next 5 sts, sc2tog the next 2 sts – 7 scs
Row 10: Ch 1, turn, sc2tog the next 2 sts, sc into the next 3 sts, sc2tog the  next 2 sts – 5 scs
Row 11: Ch 1, turn, sc2tog the next 2 sts, sc into the next st, sc2tog the next 2 sts – 3 scs
Fasten off color B, weave in all your ends.

Finishing:
As with all my earring patterns, you definitely need to use fabric stiffener on these. I wet them down and adjust the cupcakes so they look right and then let them dry. You can also use pins to keep them in place, so they keep their shape. Once they are dry, attach jump rings to your earrings (I do 3 jump rings so there’s some length but you can do as many as you’d like), and then your french hook. Glue a button or some glitter to ’em, use puffy to add sprinkles or draw something with puffy paint (like the star of leaf above) on wax paper and let it dry over night, it will stiffen and then you can glue it to your cupcake too!
