Beach Days Are Here with the Free Sun Sand Waves Wall Hanging

Sun, Sand, and Waves wall hanging free crochet pattern by DivineDebris.com

Happy July. Also, whoa, I’m a day early this week. 😀 I forgot to tell everyone last week that I was going to be a day early because I’m participating in a CAL hosted (or the Ravelry Group for it) by Underground Crafter. Check out the groups for the previous weeks’ patterns.
This week’s theme was beach and, even though I’ve lived beaches a couple times in my life, I am not a beachy person so this design was a fun flexing of my creative skill. I thought a cute wall hanging would be great for people would love the idea of the beach (me) but don’t want the trouble of going to the beach. Ha! My mother is one of those people who love the beach, so I get it if you’re think I’m weird because I am.
I hope you like this pattern and give it a shot – it’s a good way to get into tapestry crochet if you haven’t tried it yet.

There is a pdf available for purchase in my Ravelry shop, I hope you consider purchasing a pdf to help me continue to bring you patterns in the future.

Materials:

  • US H (5.00 mm) crochet hook
  • Worsted/ medium/ size #4 weight yarn
  • Yarn needle
  • Wooden Dowel

Gauge:

  • 18 rows x 16 scs = 4”

Terms/ stitches:

  • RS: right side (side that faces out)
  • Ch: chain
  • St: stitch
  • Slip st: slip stitch
  • Sc: single crochet
  • Sc2tog: single crochet 2 sts together

Notes:

  • This pattern is worked back and forth with a turn at the beginning of each row.
  • The ch 1 at the beginning of the rows does not count as a stitch.
  • Feel free to replace the first row with a foundation single crochet row.
  • This pattern is worked in 3 sections – the main body (which is worked from the bottom up), scing around the dowel, and the triangles (added to the other side of row 1).
  • Every stitch in this pattern is a single crochet, because of this the directions only tell you what color (ie: Color A, Color B, etc…) and the number in the parenthesis tell you how many single crochet to make.
  • Color changes aren’t specifically noted in the pattern other than in the “Color A” or “Color B” designation.
  • Color A: is the blues and tans and color B: is orange.
  • Rather than changing, cutting, and weaving in the ends of all the colors, the color a is carried through the design in the photos. Here’s a great tutorial on color changes. In this pattern, the active yarn is worked over the inactive.
  • I suggest you block the finished item so that it will lay flat against the wall.
  • I suggest the use of bobbins for the color changes.
  • You can replace the wooden dowel with a stick or whatever you have on hand.
  • You’ll need to know how to create a slip knot on your hook.
