Twinkle Toes Reindeer Stocking Free Crochet Pattern – Homemade Christmas

Learn to make the 2 color festive Christmas pattern, Twinkle Toes Reindeer Stocking from a free crochet pattern by Divine Debris.

Happy December everyone! Can you believe it’s already December 2024? What is happening? I don’t think I’m ready for 2025. I just feel like the year has flown by. But at least we still have weeks of festivities and joy ahead of us. Speaking of which, this week’s new free pattern plays right into that – the Twinkle Toes Reindeer Stocking.

Starting back in 2019 from with the Pretty in Gingham Stocking, I have been making an annual stocking design. They just make me so happy and they work up fast, which I imagine is great for this time of year. I’m not even making gifts for people and I feel overwhelmed right now. And that’s why I decided to design a stocking every December – hopefully it can be something you make for yourself 🙂

This year, unlike years past, I decided to make something a little simple but also not. I wanted to keep the “arch” portion of the stocking plain and add a reindeer to the top. I wanted the contrast of a complicated design surrounded by easy. That way you can add other elements, such as stars, to customize the final look. Or you could get fancy and double the reindeer instructions so you have 2. How cute would that be?

For the tapestry/ color work portion of this design, I decided i do it in the round but not BLO (as I often like to use). This way as you’re working back and forth across the rows you can drop color A as you’d like and just crochet over color B when A is in use. I hope that makes sense. It may make where the reindeer a bit bulky but it’s easily evened out with some steam blocking. But I like the little extra there, makes it look more pronounced. 😀

Anyway, I do hope you like this week’s design. It was a fun one for me to design and make. I love to bring festive fun with color work and I hope it inspires others to try it out.
As always, thank you for following along and please remember to be kind to yourself and others.

Please note: I was provided the yarn for this pattern by Lion Brand Yarn for the purposes of designing the other patterns. I wasn’t provided the yarn with the expectations of positive or negative reviews but I really like this yarn. I used it often for a variety of designs, it’s one of my favorite worsted weight yarns. How to fold to seam the Heel section of the Twinkle Toes Reindeer Stocking

Heel Seaming

Fold your Heel in half along Row 10, lining up Rows 1 – 9 with Rows 11 – 19 (9 rows) and seam the row ends together in your preferred method of seaming. Repeat on the other side of the Heel.
Fasten off, weave in your ends.

Ankle

Please note: if you’d like to add stars to the Arch section, add them now as it’s harder later.
To begin the Ankle: Pick up color B where you dropped it on the Arch. For Rnd 38 you will be working into the 22 sts of Rnd 37 of the Arch and the 20 sts of the Heel (in that order).
Rnd 38: B: Ch 1, turn, sc into the next 42 sts, join — 42 sc
Rnds 39 – 43: Ch 1, turn, sc around, join — 42 sc
The following rounds is where the color work takes place. I didn’t carry color A through the round, I just used it where it was called for and dropped it down the WS when not in use. You can carry/ crochet over or use intarsia as you’d like.
The following rows will tell you the color “A” or “B” and the number for how may stitches you make.
Row 44: Ch 1, turn, B28, A2, B12, join — 42 sc
Row 45: Ch 1, turn, B12, A2, B13, A2, B13, join — 42 sc
