Oh my, I swear March just flew by! Perhaps I’m still expecting March to be like March 2020 where they last about 3 months but last month was just gone in a blink of an eye. So here I am, in April, wondering what patterns to design for May and excited to share the first pattern of April – the Stephanie Poncho crochet pattern.
This week’s new design is inspired by one of my favorite lines that I haven’t used in a while – the Stephanie Line. With warmer weather heading our way here in SoCal I wanted to make something light and easy to wear, something that would be the perfect layering accessory. I thought the very approachable and easy to make Stephanie Line with it’s really open stitch repeat would be perfect for the light part… but what to make… what to make.
That’s where the Whitney Poncho popped into my head. For that poncho design I created a very basic large rectangle shape and then seamed up one edge to make a very dramatic, drapey, and open poncho design. The idea was perfect and ready for the making – combine the two inspirations and make the Stephanie Poncho. And don’t you just love the results?
Like the Whitney Poncho, the Stephanie Poncho is worked in one large rectangle. In the notes you can see that the multiple of this pattern is 2 (just add 1 for the chain row) and you can make this larger or smaller as you’d like. And the row repeat is easy as well, I you can make it shorter so your poncho is a little less asymmetrical. Below I even included a photo of the poncho before I seamed it up, so you can see that it makes a rather gorgeous shawl as well. Oh, and did I mention the seaming could be open or solid? Yep, this beauty is full of customization options for you to enjoy.
She is an easy pattern and I really hope you like ‘er. I really had a fun time making it and I love to use Coboo, I have some other ideas for more Coboo to use in the future. Have you used it? How do you feel about that yarn?
As always to be kind to each other, wash your masks, and stay safe friends <3 <3

Please note: I was provided Coboo yarn by Lion Brand Yarn for the purposes of designing the Stephanie Poncho crochet pattern, with compensation. I wasn’t provided the yarn with the expectations of positive or negative reviews but I honestly can say I do enjoy this yarn. I’ve used Coboo on both Kieran Cardigan and the Marguerite Top and it’s a fantastic yarn (just go slow and it is less splitty).

Fasten off, block so it measures the same as above.
Seaming
Fold your piece in half lengthwise and use your stitch markers to mark the center 15”inches toward the open end (this will make your hole 30” total), this is your neck hole. Then line up the hdc and tr sections going toward the open end. Using your preferred method of seaming, sew together the matching row ends from the stitches you marked toward the open end, going as far as you’d like or even leave open sections (as the sample shows). Fasten off, weave in your ends. Feel free to make the neck hole larger or smaller as you’d like.
And don’t forget you can buy the Stephanie Poncho crochet pattern on Ravelry.

Bought this pattern and yarn through Lion Brand. I’m really struggling with the stitch counts for some reason. Do you have videos or pictures of the details for the first 10 rows? Love the pattern and really want to be successful with it, but I’m struggling to get the counts right in the early rows. Thanks!

I don't have any videos, sorry. But what is it that you're struggling with? With the hdcc you need to remember it's worked like a hdc2tog and a ch 1 (the trc is the same) but as one stitch, so when you work back into it you're working into both the hdc2tog and the ch 1 spaces. That's how you keep your sts the same. I hope that helps. You can also email me for more help :)

Hi, I purchased the pattern through Ravelry, and I want to make sure that in Rows 20-149, that you should repeat Rows 10-19. The pattern says to repeat rows 20-29, but I don’t think that is right. I just moved to Arizona, and this is perfect project for the warmer weather here!

What a pretty, lightweight piece! I love the sunny color you chose for spring. And the peek-a-boo seaming. It's so versatile, too, that you can just leave it as a wrap as well! Thanks for sharing.
