Hi there again! How’s your Summer going? Are you dreaming of cool Fall days too? I know I am, desperately. I have always been a fan of Fall and as I crochet more I just want cooler temps more often so I can snuggle more in that lovely yarn. Ya know what I mean? But like my new Odette Pullover, I admit that it’s not quite fall yet and so I need to design some things that are good for the season, like this week’s new Kieran Cardigan crochet pattern.
Like I said above, this design is my offering for some light layers for late Summer weather. This design is like the Erin Cocoon Shrug, but lighter of course, interns of easy layering. It can be worn over jeans and a tank top or a nice dress for a night out on the town, it kind of depends on what you like. I’m a jeans and a t-shirt type of lady (which is why I love sweater season so much, it works so well with my already established fashion sense) and so a design like this is perfect for m to throw on over my tank top and go. And I just love being able to add some crochet to my wardrobe any time of the year, ya know?
Anyway, don’t forget to check out some other fun cardigans (like the Raquel) if you’re still unsure if this one is right for you. And don’t forget, you can make it in a ton of different colors! Just because I didn’t doesn’t mean you can’t. I also added a note in the pattern on how to make it longer, if you’re look for more length – remember to customize to make it your own!
See ya next week for a new C2C Plant Square (it’ll be square 8, can you believe that?).
Don’t forget to wash and wear your masks, get your shot, and be kind to each other <3 <3
Please note: I was provided the yarn for this pattern by Lion Brand Yarn for the purposes of designing the Kieran Cardigan crochet pattern, without compensation. I wasn’t provided the yarn with the expectations of positive or negative reviews but I honestly can say I do enjoy this yarn, it’s a really good yarn for garments. If you purchase yarn through any of the links in this post, I will be compensated.

- US G (4.00 mm) crochet hook
- Size #3 light weight yarn
- Specifics in Finished Product Details
- I used Coboo by Lion Brand Yarn for this cardi.
- Notions: scissors, measuring tape, yarn needle

Terms/ Stitches used
- RS: Right side
- Ch: Chain
- St: Stitch
- Sk: Skip
- Sc: Single crochet
- Dc: Double crochet
Notes
- For gauge: Chain an even amount of chs that will give you an over 4” swatch (your row st count needs to be odd), sc into the 2nd ch from the hook, *dc into the next st, sc into the next st,* repeat from * to * across. Row 2: Ch 1, turn, sc into the first sc, *dc into the next dc, sc into the next sc,* repeat from * to * across. Repeat row 2 as many times as you need to get more than 4” swatch then measure a blocked section.
- 8 rows (5 rows of the sc/dc texture and 3 rows of dc/ch1, dc, dc/ch1) will be approx 3.25” in height. This measurement is for blocking, so you can use these 8 rows (which are repeated in the pattern) to help you measure as you’re blocking.
- This pattern is worked in 4 parts: the Back Panel, 2 Front Panels, and the Finishing. All 3 pieces are worked individually, from the bottom up, in rows with a turn at the beginning of the row. When they’re completed and blocked, you will seam along the sides and top to create the cardigan.
- The ch-1 at the beginning of some rows does not count as a stitch.
- The ch-3 at the beginning of some rows does count as a stitch.
- Blocking is recommended for this pattern.
- The size in the photos is medium made in Lion Brand Yarn’s Coboo in Tan.

Seaming
Shoulders
With the wrong side facing you, arrange the Front Panels on top of the Back Panel. Using your preferred method of seaming, seam together the sts of the last row of one of the Front Panels to first 27 (29, 29, 33, 37)(41, 45, 49, 53) sts of the last row of your Back Panel. Repeat this seaming with your second Front Panel and the last 27 (29, 29, 33, 37)(41, 45, 49, 53) sts of the last row of your Back Panel. Fasten off, weave in your ends.
Sides
With the wrong side facing you, line up the Row 1 of one of the Front Panels to the Back Panel and using your preferred method of seaming, seam together row ends of Rows 1 – 37 (35, 35, 40, 38)(38, 45, 45, 45) of both the Front and Back Panels. Fasten off, weave in your ends. Repeat Side seaming instructions for the other side. The 16 (18, 18, 21, 23)(23, 24, 24, 24) unseamed rows (on each side) will be your arm holes.
Finishing Sleeves
Row 1: With the RS facing you, pull up a loop in the first st to the left of your seam on the arm hole, ch 1, sc evenly around the arm hole (placing 1 sc into each sc row end and 3 sc into each dc row end), join — 56 (60, 60, 66, 78)(78, 84, 84, 84) sc
Rows 2 – 3: Ch 1, turn, sc around, join — 56 (60, 60, 66, 78)(78, 84, 84, 84) sc
Fasten off, weave in your ends. Block if you find this section stiff.
Lapel
Row 1: With the RS facing you, pull up a loop in the first row end of the left Front Panel (when you’re looking at the cardigan, not when wearing it), and sc evenly up the row ends of the current Front Panel (placing 1 sc into each sc row end and 3 sc into each dc row end), sc into the unseamed sts of the Back Panel, then sc evenly down the row ends of the other Front Panel — 197 (201, 201, 229, 229)(229, 257, 257, 257) sc
Rows 2 – 3: Ch 1, turn, sc across — 197 (201, 201, 229, 229)(229, 257, 257, 257) sc
Do not fasten off, move onto the Bottom Edging.
Bottom Edging
Row 1: Ch 1, from where you finished on the Lapel, rotate your piece so you’re working along the 3 row ends of the Lapel and then into the other side of the original ch row of the Front Panel/Back Panel/Front Panel, and 3 rows of the Lapel on the other side — 133 (145, 153, 169, 185)(201, 217, 233, 249) sc
Rows 2 – 3: Ch 1, turn, sc across — 133 (145, 153, 169, 185)(201, 217, 233, 249) sc
Fasten off, weave in your ends. Block if you find this section stiff.
