Happy last post of August everyone!
Wow, where did the time go? I feel like I blinked and it was just June but now we’re almost into Fall (can I get a yay!?). I’m not complaining about the Fall coming up. My brain is in complete Fall designs mode now, I want all things pumpkin, cozy, and delicious. That’s what this week’s design is for, I want that cozy life!
As I’ve been building my Sherbet Line this year, I knew I wanted to make a cozy shrug. This one is great because I made it with lighter yarn, so it’s going to work well for me while the weather isn’t as cold as I would like Fall weather to be (thanks SoCal). But if you decide to make it in worsted, you’ll definitely get so much more coziness from it. And this is a really easy pattern, you could adapt it to be longer (add stitches to the base row in multiples of 2) or wider (add more rows), make the sleeves longer by adding rnds, or even make the lapel larger by (again) adding some rnds. It’s really easy adapt as you would like. I hope you have fun with it. I did 2 colors but you could do this in 1 very rich purple and it would be amazing (I’m a big fan of purples, as you might know :D).
I’ve got a huge project coming to you next week, so I better go working on that post.
See ya next week! I hope you like this shrug.

- Size #3 light weight/DK yarn
- 2 colors
- I used Mary Maxim Simply Natural
- Specifics listed in the Finished product dimensions section
- Yarn needle
Gauge
- 16 hdc x 12 rows = 4″ (blocked)
- 3 rows of hdc + 3 rows of Hdcc = 2″ – 2.25″ high
Terms/ Stitches used
- RS: right side
- Ch: chain
- St: stitch
- Slip st: slip stitch
- Hdc: half double crochet
- Hdc2tog: hdc 2 sts together

Notes
- Hdcc (half double crochet cluster): (this stitch is worked into two stitches) yarn over, insert your hook into the first st, pull up a loop, yarn over, insert your hook into the next st, pull up a loop, yarn over, pull through all 5 loops on your hook, ch 1. This stitch is worked like a hdc2tog and a ch 1 that count together as one stitch. When working into this stitch, you will work into the hdctog and the ch 1 space.
- This pattern is worked in sections: the Body, the Seaming, the Lapel, and the Sleeves. The Body is worked flat in rows and the Lapel and Sleeves are worked in the round with the slip st into the first st.
- The ch-2 at the beginning of the rows Body does count as a stitch.
- The ch-2 at the beginning of the rnds Lapel does counts as a stitch.
- The ch-2 at the beginning of the rnds Sleeves does not count as a stitch.
- The multiple of the body portion is 2. If you’d like to make it larger or smaller, just add or subtract in 2s.
- Color A is white (Mary Maxim Simply Natural in Eggshell) and color B is pink (Mary Maxim Simply Natural Phlox).

To create the sleeves, stitch together the first 26 and the last 26 sts on the first row of the Body section. Flip your piece and seam together the first 26 and the last 26 sts on the last row of the Body section. (an example above where the seam is in blue)
Weave in your ends. Don’t snip the ends until you know if you’re going to have a gap from your sleeves.

I'm unclear what the dashes mean between the instructions for the doubled up rows, like in (RS) Rows 2 - 3: ch2, hdc in (X)stitches - (X+1) stitches hdc. That reads to me like a single row where you consider it to have (X+1) stitches hdc, but do I repeat it to get 2 rows, ie for rows 2 *and* 3?
Thank you! I'm really excited to make this!

@Divine Debris, so, if I'm reading that right, it means that you do that for both rows? That was how I decided to go with it and it looks mostly right.
Thanks for answering!

For instructions that read "Rows 2 - 3" or "Rows 43 - 78" it means rows 2 to 3 or rows 43 to 78. I hope that helps. :)

I am also not able to find a Mary Maxim yarn called Simply Natural. What is the yardage on that yarn? I wrote to you earlier about how many skeins I needed to purchase. Thanks again. Cindy M

I do believe that Simply Natural has been discontinued by Mary Maxim and I didn't know the exact yardage of the skein so I looked it up on Ravelry and it appears to be 245 yds. I hope that helps

Pattern seems to be what I am looking for. However, I can not find a total quantity of yarn I need to purchase. I will most likely use a 3 weight. I will be using the measurements for a size 2x to 3x. I will probably use only 1 color.
Thank you in advance. Cindy M.
