Free 'Shroom For Everyone Rainbow Mushroom Wall Hanging

Happy June friends! It’s one of my favorite times of year to design for. I love having a theme to make something for but especially when the theme includes rainbows! I love a good rainbow, as you know, and this month’s new Pride design is the ‘Shroom For Everyone Wall Hanging, because I also love a good mushroom.
Like last year’s Rainbow Cactus Wall Hanging that I designed for Pride, I wanted to design a rainbow that means something more. Something with a deeper meaning, like how tough cacti are and how that represents the queer community’s toughness. And this year, I went with a favorite – the mushroom. This is because mushrooms are special, they’re not plants or animals they’re a wide variety of fungi that exist independently but also are closely related to both. Mushrooms can be poisons, they can be edible, they can be all wild and gnarly looking or cute with little caps, or bight or plain… but they’re all accepted and they’re all mushrooms. Maybe I’m over thinking this but mushrooms are hearty, they grow everywhere. They’re special.

Now with this post, to make sure it’s big on the “‘Shrooms For Everyone” I decided to include color-coded instructions below in the post. They’re in photos after the graph, so if you don’t see them make sure your ad block is off and refresh your browser tab. I think the colors really help to make it easier to make the design. And like all my wall hanging patterns, this design is easily made using bobbins (keeping the yarn attached to the skein as you work it).
I don’t like cutting yarn until I absolutely have to, so bobbins are the way to go, I also use floats if there’s only a couple stitches to work across.

Anyway, I hope this new design. All the proceeds from my Rainbow patterns will be donated to the Trevor Project and Trans Lifeline for the month of June. Please remember, the first Pride was a riot, not a corporate money grab. So support your community, wear and wash your masks, and be kind to yourself and others.

US G (4.00 mm) crochet hook
Worsted weight/ size #4 yarn
- 13 colors
- Less than 2 oz/ 120 yds of ea.
- I used Brava Worsted by We Crochet for this pattern
Notions: scissors, measuring tape, yarn needle
Wooden dowel/ stick (more than 13” across)

Gauge

18 sc x 21 rows = 4” (blocked)

Terms/ Stitches used

Ch: Chain
St: Stitch
Sc: Single crochet
RS: Right side

Notes

You can purchase the easy to print version of this pattern for a fee in my Ravelry shop.
This pattern is worked from the bottom up, row by row with a turn at the beginning of the rows.
The ch 1 at the beginning of the rows does not count as a stitch.
This pattern doesn’t require you to carry the yarn, just use bobbins where necessary and change colors on the last pull through of the sc.
Blocking is suggested for this pattern.
Begin with a ch 56 in color A, turn, and start in the 2nd ch from the hook. Each row begins with a “ch 1, turn” and all st counts are 55 sc.

Top/ Hanging
Sew your wooden dowel or stick to your wall hanging (or sc into the last row across if you’d like).
For the hanger, ch 80 with color A and tie the ends to the first and last sts on the final row of the wall hanging.

Fringe (optional)
I added pieces of fringe to the other side of Row 1 in colors that matched the colors on Row 1, although I broke up the black fringe section with some brown fringe.
