Kelsey Tank Top Free Crochet Pattern

[Image description] A white woman with purple hair stands with one hand in her pocket in front of a green landscape in the pink and gray Kelsey Tank Top

It’s finally time for the Kelsey Tank Top pattern to come out and, boy, am I nervous about this release. I really wanted to make a fun and simple tank top pattern this year. One that you could do all sorts of fun and customizable things with and I think I did it… right?
So I’ve posted a few previews of the Kelsey Tank Top on Instagram (named for the use of the Griddle St like the others in my Kelsey Line) and the response was… ok. And that made me nervous. I didn’t know if people weren’t liking the design, or the colors, or the shortness of it and that was making a very worried Amber for sure. But here we are, like it or not, ready to release the Kelsey Tank Top and I still really hope people like it because this is such a simple design to customize.
I wanted to make a basic tank top that you could add your own spin on. Of course, I had dress it up a bit to make it something I would like and wear (occasionally, bare midriffs are so scary for me). But that doesn’t mean you can’t do it all in one color. Or 15 colors! I even added notes in the to explain how to make it longer if you want a more traditional tank top length, both in the body or added sts to the band to make that bigger instead. Like a lot of my designs, I want you to feel completely empowered to customize this design to make you happy.
But I have to say one of the best parts of this was having a tester say that she felt confident enough to take the test because my designs help make her feel comfortable in her skin. When I tell you all that I almost cried, I did. That hit me right in the feelings. I never anticipated a comment like that, I just wanna make pretty things with yarn and not feel things. But here we are! And that made me so glad I designed this. Even if no one else is into it, I know someone else got a kick out of it and that’s special.
I hope you have a great week! There will be a new C2C square out next week. I hope you like it.

Please note: I was provided the yarn for this pattern by We Crochet for the purposes of designing the Kelsey Tank Top pattern, with compensation. I wasn’t provided the yarn with the expectations of positive or negative reviews but I always enjoy using this yarn, I’ve used it many times and it’s always a great cotton yarn. If you purchase yarn through any of the links in this post, I will be compensated.

Straps
Please note: make sure you check the length of your straps to see if they’ll be too long before you fasten off.
With color A and 4.00 mm hook:
Strap 1
Row 1:
With the RS facing you create a slipknot on your hook and start in the first row end of a color A section (to the left a color B section) from the Body, sc once into the next 8 (8, 8, 8, 8)(10, 10, 10, 10) row ends  — 8 (8, 8, 8, 8)(10, 10, 10, 10) sc

Fasten off leaving a long enough tail that you will be able to seam all the sts of the Strap to another Strap.
Strap 2
Start from where you ended on the first row of the previous Strap, skip across the color A section of the Body until 8 (8, 8, 8, 8)(10, 10, 10, 10) row ends remain.
Row 1: Create a slipknot on your hook with color A, sc once into the next 8 (8, 8, 8, 8)(10, 10, 10, 10) row ends — 8 (8, 8, 8, 8)(10, 10, 10, 10) sc

For row 36 (size large) where do you attach color B? Do you sc/dc the entire width of the body panel?

Divine Debris

You join the new color where you fastened off the previous color & yes you go across as many sts as the instructions read.
