Where are my Fall lovers at? I know I can’t be alone in missing the best season of the year. I look forward to the colors changing and the temps dropping (who knows when that will happen though, ya know). But until that time arrives I can crochet to pass the time… and finish this week’s new release the Glenda Ghost Blanket crochet pattern.

I love Halloween, it’s my favorite holiday. I know that can’t be surprising to anyone who’s seen my Halloween tattoos. 😀 And because of this love I am always designing new patterns for this time of year. I have so many. Have you made one? I’d love to hear (share in the comments).

Now I think I need to say this – this pattern got away from me. I didn’t mean for it to be this large initially when I was designing it. But when I started on the individual squares I was like “oh, I don’t such small ones I should go bigger.” And while the blanket turned out so effing epic, I know it’s kinda huge. But don’t worry! That’s easy enough to remedy – I’ve added a couple squares below as options or you can use your own square variation (maybe C2C?) to make the blanket the size that fits your lifestyle.

Outside of the sheer size of it, this pattern is super easy to make. 380 squares worked from the center out. I used hdcs because that is my favorite stitch ever but if you’d like to use sc, that would also work. After you make all the squares you can arrange them and seam them as you’d like. I used the zigzag seam (see below on info for that) but you can do BLO slip st or sew them. It’s totally up to you. To be honest, as long as you make the 380 squares and follow the graph I added below – you can make this blanket in a variety of ways.

This pattern is worked in 380 individual squares (207 charcoal and 173 white). Please note: this blanket is very large.
Each square is worked from the center out in rounds, slip st into the first st of the round.
Each square begins with a Magic Circle. If you’d like to use an alternative you can, just be sure that it’s secure and doesn’t leave a large hole it may distort your finished square.
Rounds 2 – 6 feature a “ch 1, turn” at the beginning of the rounds. The ch 1 does not count as a stitch.
Blocking (either seam or wet) is suggested for the individual squares. This will make seaming easier later on.
An alternating slip st seam was used to join the individual squares but you an use whatever method to seam that you’re comfortable with. There’s a graph on below that will show you how to arrange your squares to seam.
Because this blanket is so large, I included some other squares you could use to make it smaller but still make yourself a cute ghost blanket.

Square options

Because this blanket is really big (76″ x 80″ but so awesome and cozy) I thought it’d be fun to suggest some smaller options for you to make this design. Feel free to change up the squares as you’d like, there’s so many cool squares out there you could make and as long as you make the required amount of squares and arrange them as the graph shows below, you’ve got an awesome blanket on your hands. 🙂

3″ square

Please note: this pattern is nearly identical to the square I used in making this blanket, I just left off a few rows to keep it to 3″ x 3″ still using the 4.00 mm hook based on the same gauge as listed above.
Rnd 1: Create a magic circle, ch 1, *hdc 3 times, ch 2,* repeat from * to * 3 more times, join – 12 hdc, 4 ch-2 spaces
(RS) Rnd 2: Ch 1, turn, [hdc, ch 2, hdc] into the first ch-2 space, *hdc into the next 3 sts, [hdc, ch 2, hdc] into the next ch-2 space,* repeat from * to * twice more, hdc into the last 3 sts, join – 20 hdc, 4 ch-2 spaces

Please note: this is a classic granny square and is only about 3.15″ x 3.15″ still using the 4.00 mm hook based on a similar gauge as the one in this pattern.

Rnd 1: Create a magic right (or ch 4 if you’d prefer), Ch 3 (counts as a dc here and throughout), dc 2 times into the magic right, ch 3, *dc 3 times into the magic circle, ch 3,* repeat from * to *, join – 12 dc, 4 ch-3 spaces
(RS) Rnd 2: Turn, slip st into the ch-3 space, ch 3, [2 dc, ch 3, 3 dc] into the same ch-3 space you slip sted into, ch 1, *[3 dc, ch 3, 3 dc] into the next ch 3 space, ch 1,* repeat from * to * twice more, join – 24 dc, 4 ch-3 spaces, 4 ch-1 spaces

Seaming the Glenda Ghost Blanket crochet pattern

For the seaming of this blanket, I used the zig zag slip stitch method. All this means is I lined up the 2 working squares (one on top of the other with the RS facing up) and starting in one ch-2 corner, I pulled up a loop and slip stitched into the matching ch-2 corner on the square on top. Then just continued across the square slip stitching back and forth between the 2 squares. This creates a nice texture and is very secure. See the photo above for an example.

More info:
– I seamed from right to left horizontally first. The seamed going vertically second.
– I used charcoal yarn to seam on any time 2 charcoal squares or 1 charcoal and 1 white square were touching but I used white yarn to seam when 2 white squares were touching.
