Free Colorful Chevrons Blanket Crochet Pattern – An Update on a Classic

Learn to make this fun take on the classic chevron crochet blanket with the added texture and stripes with the free Colorful Chevrons Blanket crochet pattern by Divine Debris

And just like that, it’s the final pattern of 2023. With only a couple more days in the month, this one is just making it in. But that’s good, because starting January with a big squishy project is honestly one of my favorite past times. And just in case you’re like me, I hope you like this week’s new Colorful Chevrons Blanket.

This blanket has been on my hook for months. I started designing it back in June (in my head) and by the end of July I was working on it, trying to figure out how big and cozy I wanted it to be. Now it didn’t take me half a year to make, in fact I got most of it done in October and November, because it sad for a few months (oops!), and left December for weaving in ends and doing the dance of “should I add tassels to this” (I didn’t but only because my mom’s dog wanted to bite the tassels on other designs). This design, tbh, was a nice break from all the other big and pressing patterns I had on my hook. Nice and calming counting 😀

If you’ve been following me for a minute, this design may seem familiar… and it is supposed to be! It’s a variation on the Colorful Chevrons Wall Hanging from 2022. When I made that pattern I just loved how it turned out that I vowed I would turn that wall hanging in to a blanket at some point. And I finally found the time. 😀 I’m glad too, it’s so squishy and perfect for the winter here.

I know there’s only a couple more days left in 2023 but I really do wish you a happy rest of your year and a lovely new year. I know that life and everything feels like a lot (to me too) but I always try to go into a new year with hope in my heart. Ya know? So I wish you hope and a wonderful 2024!

Please note: I was provided the Pound of Love yarn by Lion Brand Yarn for the purposes of designing the Colorful Chevrons Blanket crochet pattern, with compensation. I love Pound of Love and have used it for blankets many times and it’s always great. This post features affiliate links, if you click on any of the links and purchase I may make money from that. Notes

  • Back third loop only (BTLO): When looking at the front of the stitch you will have the 2 loops on top of the hdc (the V on top), lean the stitch towards you and will see the third loop that runs along the back of the stitch. This is the loop you will work into. This stitch is also known as the Camel Stitch. Please note that when you work this stitch you will be looking at the back of the previous row’s hdc, so the third loop will be facing you.
  • This pattern is worked from the bottom up in a chevron design.
  • The ch 1 at the beginning of the rows does not count as a stitch.
  • Both * and [ ] denote repeats in this pattern. Both will be used in the same rows, be sure to pay extra attention to where they’re placed.
  • The even rows are the right side.
  • The instructions are written out for the first 44 rows and after that the instructions only tell you which rows to repeat for brevity.
  • Pound of Love yarn by Lion Brand Yarn was used for this pattern. Color A is light blue (POL in Elephant Gray) and color B is dark blue (POL in Cascade). Or buy the kit here.

love the look of this blanket. The stitch and the colors. Was wondering is there a multiple to make smaller? I make blankets for Cancer Center and I make mine More around 34 or 36" wide. Thank you.
