Happy May! Can you believe it’s already here? The Summer is right around the corner… which means we all need some more fun crochet crafts that don’t mean heavy blankets sitting on us. Right? Well, for me it’s true because I love to crochet year-round and find fun wips to work on even when it’s super hot outside, like this week’s new Color Swirl Wall Hanging.

Now if you’re around here a lot you might find this week’s design pretty familiar and that’s because it’s the sister piece to last month’s Color Swirl Blanket. I had so much fun designing and making that pattern that I knew as soon as I was done with that blanket I wanted to make a matching wall hanging. I love how the color moves through the design and wanted to see if I could make it smaller and still have it look fluid like that. I think I did a pretty good job, don’t you?

Now this new wall hanging, like all my other wall hangings, it worked from the bottom up in rows of single crochet stitches. This made having sections for the colors was a breeze to keep organized. I kept the yarn attached to the skein or cake (from my stash) and worked the rows back and forth and made sure drop the unused yarn down the WS when I didn’t need it. And when it comes to changing colors in sc, I pick up the new color in the final pull through.

As I’ve said in other posts, when working with many colors like this I always make sure to turn at the end/ beginning of the row back and forth (left, then right, then left, then right) rather than in a circle (left, then left, then left) which helps me keep all my bobbins/ yarn less tangled. Unfortunately, tangles can be unavoidable at times but like with all things, we gotta try our best. Right? 😀 Oh, and don’t forget to block your color work, it makes a world of difference. Especially with steam blocking, that uses hot steam/ water to relax the yarn. It’s what I use and that gets these designs as close to flat as possible. This includes the fringe.

Below the graph is available to view, that way if you’d like to make this as sc or hdc or dc you can do it… but you can also make it in C2C if you want to work the graph on a bias. And if you’d prefer you can knit, Tunisian crochet , and even cross stitch this design using the graph as well. It’s entirely up to you 😀 But, keeping with industry standards, if you’d like written instructions to this pattern you can pick those up in my Ravelry shop (it’s written in back and forth rows so it won’t help you with C2C). I know talking about money makes people uncomfortable but I split up these patterns this way so that people do have an incentive to pick up the pdf, it helps me to keep making patterns here on my blog. I hope you understand.

I hope you like this week’s new release! I had a lot of fun making this one because as always, painting with yarn fills me with such joy. I love the whole process of picking the colors, of making the graph, and then working the pattern. Hell, I even like adding the fringe to a wall hanging, I find it kinda soothing. 🙂 I just feel so happy to be able to do this. Thank you for visiting my blog.

Please note: I was provided the yarn for this pattern Brava Worsted by WeCrochet for the purposes of designing patterns other than the Color Swirl Wall Hanging crochet pattern, without compensation. I wasn’t provided the yarn with the expectations of positive or negative reviews but I’ve used Brava many times for wall hangings and other goodies, it’s a fantastic yarn. Graph for the Color Swirl Wall Hanging by Divine Debris

Begin with a ch 64 in color A, turn, and start in the 2nd ch from the hook. Each row begins with a “ch 1, turn” and all st counts are 63 sc.

Top/ Hanging
With the colors you used on the final row (that way it matches) sc or sew your wooden dowel or stick to your wall hanging.
For the hanger, ch 70 with color C and tie the ends to the first and last sts on the final row of the wall hanging.

Fringe (optional)
Feel free to add any details, such a fringe or surface crochet to customize your final
piece. I added fringe that corresponded with the colors on Row 1, that way it looks a bit like the color is bleeding down through the wall hanging.
