Free Blair Scarf Crochet Pattern – A Simple But Fun Accessory

Learn to make the cute, textured, and easy Blair Scarf from a free crochet pattern by Divine Debris.

Happy 2025 friends! I can’t believe it’s been another year in yarn. I cannot say how much I appreciate you all keeping with me (unless it’s your first time on my blog, and hi!) and checking out my patterns month after month. And to kick off the year I’ve got a scarf that I’ve been snuggling up in for weeks – the Blair Scarf crochet pattern.

Like last month’s Loretta Scarf, this design is made in on piece from end to end and in one skein of variegated yarn. I love using a skein of variegated yarn for a scarf, it takes all the guess work out of deciding what colors to use and it saves time on weaving in ends. And for this week’s design I used Mandala Ombre by Lion Brand Yarn. I had this skein in my stash since finishing the Aviva Pullover last year and I’m so glad I got a chance to finally use it.

Like all my designs, this one started out with me playing around with texture. I always combine a few stitches, frog, try different stitches, frog, mix up stitches I used before but didn’t like together, and frog again before getting a little frustrated before finally finding a design I like. It’s not an efficient process but it is just how I have to do it 😉

For this one, I loved the combination of height from the double crochet stitch and the squishy cluster of the hdc cluster st (explained in the Notes if you haven’t made it before). I think together the 2 sts really play off each other well creating a nice and relaxing design to make. But I can never help myself, and so I added ribbing to both ends of the scarf to give it a something “ooh” (or at least I hope so). Don’t worry, you begin with Ribbing and then end with it too, so you still make this design in 1 piece. It’s easy, I swear.

I cannot believe we’re staring another year of crochet. Where does the time go? I hope you’re doing well and have some good things to look forward to this year. And, as always, I hope you like this week’s design. It’s super easy, fun, and works up pretty fast. And if you want to pick up the pdf, it is available on Ravelry.
Thank you so much for visiting and genuinely, from my heart, I hope you’re well. Remember, build your community and find people. It heals.

Please note: I was provided the yarn for this pattern by Lion Brand Yarn with no real purpose, just to make something fun and without compensation. I wasn’t provided the yarn with the expectations of positive or negative reviews but I love working with Mandala Ombre, it’s a gorgeous yarn such dimension, which really contributes to this lovely finished look of the scarf. Notes

  • If you’d like a pdf for this pattern, it’s available on Ravelry.
  • For gauge: Row 1: Begin with a dc row wider than 4” and an even st count. Row 2: Ch 1, turn, hdc into the first st, hdcc across, hdc into the last st. Row 3: . Row 4: Ch 3, turn, dc across. Repeat Rows 3 – 4 until you have enough rows to block and measure 4” in the center.
  • Half double crochet cluster (Hdcc): Yarn over, insert hook into st, yarn over, pull up a loop, yarn over, insert hook into the next st, yarn over, pull up a loop, yarn over, pull through all 5 loops on your hook, ch 1. This is basically a hdc2tog and a ch 1 counting as one st. When you work back into this st, use both the hdc2tog and the ch 1.
  • This scarf is long because I like long scarves, feel free to remove rows to make it shorter.
  • The ch 1 at the beginning of some rows does not count as a stitch.
  • The ch 3 at the beginning of some rows does count as a stitch. Feel free to replace this with any replacement starting Dc you’d like.
  • This scarf is worked in one piece, row by row, from one end to the other.
  • The Ribbing sections may be a bit tight and need blocking to lay flat. You can also increase a hook size if you’d like to make it less tight.
  • The sample in the photos was made with 1 skein of Lion Brand Yarn’s Mandala Ombre in Cool.

Scarf Body
Row 1: Ch 1, sc into each row end across – 26 sc
(RS) Row 2: Ch 3 (counts as a dc here and throughout), dc across – 26 dc
Row 3: Ch 1, turn, hdc into the first st, hdcc across until 1 st remains, hdc into the last st – 2 hdc, 12 hdcc

Ribbing 2
Rotate your piece so you’re working along the row end of the Scarf section. The Ribbing 2 row numbering starts over again.
Row 1: Ch 11, sc into the second ch from the hook and into the next 9 sts – 10 sc
Row 2: Slip st into the 1st and 2nd sts of Row 133 of the Scarf, turn, sc into the BLO of the next 9 sc, sc into the last st – 10 sc
Row 3: Ch 1, turn, sc into the first st, sc BLO across – 10 sc
Row 4: Slip st into the next 2 sts on Row 133 of the Scarf, turn, sc into the BLO of the next 9 sts, sc into the last st – 10 sc
Rows 5 – 26: Repeat rows 3 – 4, a total of 11 more times.
Fasten off, weave in your ends. Block your scarf if you’d like.

Tassels
For each tassel: make 20 lengths of yarn at about 8” – 9” each. Cut another piece of yarn and tie it around the center of the bundle you just cut. Fold the bundle in half around the piece you just tied and using another piece of yarn, tie the two halves back into one. Attach each tassel to end stitches of each Ribbing section. Feel free to steam block the tassels to get the yarn to lay evenly.

Need a fun and quick one skein project? The Blair Scarf might be perfect for you. This design is worked from end to end, in one piece, with one skein of yarn. This pattern is super easy with fun texture made in very approachable stitches. It’s easy to customize with many colors or a variegated yarn as you’d like as well as fringe or tassels on the ends.
