Free Beverage Buddy Crochet Pattern – A Squishy Yarn Friend

Learn to make the fun, silly, and super customizable new best friend using the free Beverage Buddy crochet pattern by Divine Debris

Hi everyone! Who could use a fun and silly little design? Well, that’s what you’re going to get with this week’s new freebie – the Beverage Buddy crochet pattern.

I’ve been working on this pattern for a little while and absolutely meant to release this sooner. Probably should have released a cute beer buddy (the original name) before St Patrick’s Day, ya know? I did make a green one after all. But like a lot of things, I lost motivation on what I wanted to work on due to (signals the world). Now, however, I feel more motivated and wanted to a bit of levity with y’all.

This pattern is pretty easy tbh, nearly a beginner one. It’s worked in 2 pieces (2 cups) and then you seam along the outer edge (I used sc to close the two cups along the bottom edges and just a slip st along the top). The face is completely optional but you can make it with a contrasting color yarn or you can even use puffy paint and draw it on. As always, it’s all about what you want to do to customize the finished pattern – use different colors, add a straw (maybe with a pipe cleaner), or even ice cubes. Speaking of, in the notes I added information on how you could make this design larger too if you want to customize it that way.

As always, thank you so much for checking out this week’s pattern. I hope you like this little cutie. I know it’s scary out there right now and that’s part of the reason I made this design, as a little friend you can hold and squeeze to help ya along with your days. Big hugs and good vibes <3

Please note: I was provided the yarn for this pattern by Lion Brand Yarn for the purposes of designing other patterns and yarn was left over. I wasn’t provided the yarn with the expectations of positive or negative reviews but I love using DIYarn for bright and easy worsted weight patterns, it works up so well and vibrant! • This pattern is worked in 2 cup pieces, individually worked from the bottom up in rows of sc, that are seamed together with a round of sc (during which you stuff the space between).
  • The ch 1 at the beginning of the rows does not count as a stitch.
  • The details, like the face, are completely optional and added before seaming. Feel free to use yarn or puffy paint or anything you’d like to create the faces.
  • You can make these cups bigger by adding more chs to the first row, adding more rows, and adding more increases as you’d like. It’s a very adaptable pattern.
  • The sample (the yellow buddy): DIYarn by Lion Brand Yarn was used for the yellow and white and gray stash yarn was used to outline the cup.

Face (optional)
Feel free to add eyes and a mouth in whatever way you’d like but do this before you seam the 2 cups together. I made 2 knots for the eyes (tying the ends on the wrong side) and created the little mouth by making a “v” or a v with a horizontal line between diagonal parts and, again, tying the ends on the WS.

Seaming
After finishing both cups, hold them so that the WS of both pieces are touching. With color C (gray) pull up a loop in the final st of Row 15 so that you’re working down the row ends towards Row 1 of the cup.
Row 1: C: Sc into the next 15 row ends, ch 1 at the corner and rotate your piece, sc into the next 8 sts on the other side of Row 1, ch 1 at the corner and rotate your piece, sc into the next 15 row ends – 38 sc
Fasten off, weave in all your ends. Switch colors to color B.
Be sure to stuff your Buddy before moving on to the next portion.
Final seaming
Pull up a loop of color B in the first st of Row 15, slip st across Row 15 and fasten off. Weave in all your ends.
