Free Alix Shawl Crochet Pattern – Make It Flow

[Image description] A white woman with purple hair stands in front of a tan stone wall holding the Alix Shawl in multi-colored pastels, up towards the camera

Hi there friends! This week, oh boy, do I need all the coffee I can get. You know what I mean? It’s only Tuesday and yet it feels like I’ve been going, going, and gone for at least 6 days. But at least I have the bright and shiny new Alix Shawl crochet pattern to keep me company.

This week’s pattern is the newest entry in the ever-growing Alix Line (which was updated last month with the super fun Alix Tank Top) and I am loving adding to this line. I just love the easy texture of it all, don’t you? And the colors. I’ve been very focused on making colorful texture with this line (and all year long if we’re being honest) so this shawl is a great addition.

This design is easy, I swear, just gotta keep count. It’s worked from the center out in rows and as it grows you can really have a lot of fun, especially if you’re like me and you made it using a variegated yarn and you love to watch those colors change. Oh, feels like I got on a bit of a tangent there with the yarn, any way… you definitely need to keep count. Each row goes up my 6 stitches and you will hit the same sts at the same spots as it grows. Just pay attention to what stitches go where when it’s smaller and it’ll help you keep track as it gets bigger (like if you do a hdc before the ch2 space or a BTLO hdc). And best part? You can really make this huge by adding rows, a couple of my testers had extra yarn so they added more rows and it looks amazing.

Anyway, I do hope you like this new pattern. It’s a gorgeous one with lots of color possibilities and fun. Have a great week!

Please note: I was provided the yarn this pattern by Hobbii Yarn for the purposes of designing the Alix Shawl crochet pattern, without compensation. I wasn’t provided the yarn with the expectations of positive or negative reviews but I did enjoy using this yarn. If you purchase yarn through any of the links in this post, I will be compensated.

Where to purchase the Alix Shawl crochet pattern

Level

Advanced Easy

Materials

  • US E (3.50 mm) crochet hook
  • Size #2 Fine/ Sport Yarn
    • 8.8 oz/ 1100 yds
  • Notions: scissors, measuring tape, yarn needle

Gauge

  • 14 rows x 19 hdc = 4″ (blocked)

Terms/ Stitches used

  • RS: right side
  • St: stitch
  • Ch: chain
  • Sk: skip
  • BTLO: back third loop only (explained below)
  • Hdc: half double crochet

Notes

  • BTLO: (back third loop only): when looking at the stitch you will have the 2 loops on top of the hdc (the V on top), lean the stitch towards you and will see the third loop that runs along the back of the stitch. This is the loop you will work into. This stitch is also known as the Camel Stitch. Please note that when you work this stitch you will be looking at the back of the previous row’s hdc, so the third loop will be facing you.
  • This pattern is worked from the center out, with increases each row.
  • The ch-1 at the beginning of the rows does not count as a stitch, just make it approximately the same height as a hdc.
  • Blocking is suggested for this pattern.
  • The sample was made in Twister yarn by Hobbii in the colorway Pastel Crayon (1 skein).
