Eggciting Pot Holder!

Howdy! Last week I told you that I had another Easter pattern in the works and here it is! If you follow me on social media  you’ve probably already seen this, but it’s just another fun pot holder that matches the other seasonal ones I’ve designed, with an iconic image from the season/ holiday and it repeated 4 – 6 times in the pot holder. This is a fun idea if you’re giving gifts to people or just want to spruce up your kitchen with the season. I include a loop in the corner so that you can hang it on a hook, an image that always strikes me as “homey” when I think of it. I’m not someone who does that but I want to be, if that makes sense.
Anyway, this design is less exciting that last week’s, I let the variegated yarn do all the work this week and just made a fun white egg while the variegation worked out really well, looks like I planned the rows to make blocks of color like that. I did not, for the record, just a happy accident. Anyway, I hope you like this design and give it a try!

You can purchase a downloadable ad-free pdf from my Ravelry shop for $1.00.

Materials:

  • US G (4.00) mm crochet hook
  • Worsted weight/ size #4/ medium weight yarn
    • 1.50 Oz/ 73 yards
    • I used Sugar and Cream yarn for this (2 – 3 colors)
    • For hot pads or pot holders, use cotton yarn because acrylic will burn/ melt
  • Yarn needle

Gauge:

  • 17 rows x 16 scs = 4″Ravelry link

Terms/ stitches:

  • RS: right side
  • Ch: chain
  • St: stitch
  • Slip st: slip stitch
  • Sc: single crochet

Notes:

  • This pattern is worked back and forth in rows, with a turn at the end/ beginning.
  • The ch 1 at the beginning of the row does not count as a stitch.
  • This pattern is worked from the bottom up.
  • All of the stitches in this pattern are single crochets, because of this the instructions (where all the color changes are) only tell you how many stitches to do in what color, this is what the number in the parenthesis means.
  • Rather than changing, cutting, and weaving in the ends of all the colors, the yarn is carried in the photos. Here’s a great tutorial on color changes. In this pattern, the active yarn is worked over the inactive. I drop the other colors when they’re not in use.
  • Also check out this post about tapestry crochet from Moogly, it’s helpful.
  • You can replace the chain row with a foundation single crochet row.
  • Color A: is variegated blue/green, Color B: white, and Color C: is blue.

Finished dimensions:

  • Height: 7.75″
  • Width: 7.75″
