Be Kind Wall-Hanging 2.0

If you’re like me, you are a work in progress yourself. You’re always trying to do better, be better, and learn from past you and those around you. As I get older I’m trying to learn to have more kindness – to be kind to myself and to find kindness for others. And that’s why I’ve designed this week’s new free pattern, the Be Kind Mini C2C Wall-Hanging.

Now this is not necessarily a new idea from me, just a new way to do it. I made the Be Kind Wall-Hanging (the original ones) back in 2018 and it’s still one of my favorite home decor items. I like the simple message and, if I’m being honest, it does remind me to take a minute, take a breath, and think about how I can approach something with a bit more kindness.

And like I said on Instagram the other day: This is not some centrist anthem – I’m not saying you should respond to oppression with kindness. Hugging the guy who just bludgeoned someone isn’t kindness.
Instead, I think the ultimate kindness is listening to people, hearing what they’re experiencing, & lending your voice to help them.
Kindness isn’t keeping silent

Like my Coffee C2C squares, I followed industry standards, I decided to have the written instructions in the pdf only and below is the graph. If you find you’d rather have the instructions written out for you, I do hope you’ll purchase the pdf.

So I hope you like this new design and give it a try. It was the first time I ever did mini c2c (which uses hdcs instead of dcs) and I really liked how it turned out. It’s such a fun technique! I hope you enjoy making it too 🙂

Please note: I was provided the yarn for this pattern by Lion Brand Yarn for the purposes of making this design, without compensation. I wasn’t provided the yarn with the expectations of positive or negative reviews but I did enjoy using this yarn, I’ve used it many times and it’s always a great worsted acrylic yarn.

  • This is a C2C pattern worked from the bottom right corner to the top left corner.

  • Each C2C square consists of 3 half double crochets and a ch-2. The directions will only tell you what color (ie: Color A, Color B, etc…) and the number tells you how many squares to make.
  • Check out the tutorial by Meghan Makes Do on how to do mini C2C designs if you’re unfamiliar with this technique.
  • You will need to know how to change colors in a C2C for this pattern.
  • The odd-numbered rows are worked down and the even-numbered rows are worked up. The odd-numbered rows are the Right Side.
  • In the photos: Color A is white (Lion Brand Yarn Basic Stitch Anti-Pilling in white 5 oz/ 264 yds), color B is brown (Lion Brand Yarn Basic Stitch Anti-Pilling in Heather Taupe 1 oz/ 53 yds), and color c is green (Lion Brand Yarn Mandala Sparkle .5 oz/ 47 yds)

Finishing
If necessary, block your piece so it measures approx 13” x 19″.
To add a border: with the RS facing you create a slipknot on your hook, sc into the into the first st in the corner square on the bottom, ch 3, *sc into the section between the squares, ch 3, skip the next square* repeat from * to * across to the last square of the bottom edge, sc into the last st and rotate your piece, repeat from * to * up the side, rotate your piece and sc into the first st of the top edge and ch 3, repeat from * to * across the top, sc into the last st of the top edge and rotate your piece, repeat from * to * down the side until you reach the beginning sc, join – 4 sc, 134 ch-3 spaces
Fasten off, weave in your ends.
Add fringe to every other ch-3 space along the bottom edge.

Top
Flip your whole piece around so you’re working along the top edge. Create a slipknot on your hook and sc 3 times around your stick or dowel into every other ch-3 space, ch 3 between the sc sections, across the top. Ch 80 (you can do more or less here depending on how you want it to hang), skip back to the first sc you made along the top edge, slip st into the last st – 1 ch-80 space

Hi, This is a corner to corner pattern, or C2C, where you will work the diagram diagonally. This will give you more rows than if you were working it across, resulting in 66 rows actually, the 66th row is just the last block and so you're not decreasing there which is what my note is about. I hope that helps.
