Be Brave Wall Hanging free crochet pattern by Divine Debris

Happy June everyone! How’s it going?
Me? Oh, I’m finally moving! If you’ve been following me on social media at all for the last few months you know I’ve been talking constantly about moving, it’s been a huge part of my life since January. And it’s finally over… well, it’s not over but I am writing this intro from a whole new state – we’re visiting with family for a bit before we continue on our journey.
So, today’s post is another wall hanging that I really couldn’t be more excited to post. I thought this design would be perfect for Pride month and just a good message overall. I know that I like a good message to keep my chin up and keep going with life, which can seem very difficult sometimes. <3
I really hope you like today’s design. You could probably get wild and make two of the “Be Brave” portions and make a bag out of it by seaming them together, if you’re so inclined.

Materials

US G (4.00mm) crochet hook
Aran/ medium/ size #4 weight yarn
- approx. 3 oz. / 118 yards
- 3-5 colors
- I used Caron One Pound
Yarn needle
Wooden Dowel

Gauge

16 rows x 15 scs = 4”

Terms/stitches used

RS: Right side
Ch: chain
St: stitch
Slip st: slip stitch
Sc: single crochet
Sc2tog: single crochet 2 sts together

Notes

This pattern is worked in 2 sections: the Main Body and the Top. The Main body is worked first, from the top down to the point, then the top is added when you flip the whole piece over and work along the top edge. Adding fringe is in the Extra section, you can add as much or as little as you’d like.
The ch 1 at the beginning of the row does not count as a stitch.
Every stitch in this pattern is a single crochet. The directions will only tell you what color (ie: Color A, Color B, etc…) and the number in the parentheses tells you how many scs to make.
The use of bobbins like they did on Hodgepodge Crochet is suggested for this pattern.
You will need to know how to create a slipknot on your hook for this pattern.
In the example, the inactive yarn is carried behind the active. If this is confusing, you might want to check out the helpful Moogly video on tapestry.
Color A is off white (Caron One Pound in Off White), color B is purple (misc color in my stash), color C is red (misc color in my stash), color D is orange (misc color in my stash), color E is yellow (misc color in my stash), color F is green (misc color in my stash), and color G is blue (misc color in my stash).

Row 2: A: Ch 1, turn, sc into the next 47 sts – 47 scs
Row 3: A: Ch 1, turn, sc around the wooden dowel all the way across – 47 scs
Row 4: A: Ch 60, skip the next 45 sts, slip st into the last sc – ch-60 space
Fasten off, weave in your ends.
