Good morning… or at least it’s morning here in my house. It’s been a long weekend. My husband and I decided to use the long weekend, Monday was the Fourth of July in the USA if you’re visiting from another country, and finally do a kitchen DIY that we’ve been eyeballing for a while. I hated my counters since we moved in 3 years ago and finally, FINALLY, I will be rid of them in a couple more days. We did a concrete countertop DIY like you can find on this blog: A Beautiful Mess. It’s not done yet and when I’m done with this blog post I will be heading back into the belly of the beast to start sanding. Yay, right?
With that in mind I decided to keep this week’s project small and I already had an idea last week. Last Tuesday I posted the Stars and Stripes Mug Cozy and also had the idea for this mug cozy but wanted to get the Stars and Stripes out sooner. This little project is the sister project to the Drunken Sheep Bottle Cozy. I’ve got a couple more ideas for some fun things for the Silly Sheep line, which is what I’m naming this line. So, if you’re liking this line, you should keep an eye out for more!

Materials:
- Worsted/ medium/ #4 weight yarn
- .5 oz/ 368 yards total
- I used Red Heart Super Saver
- 3 colors
- US G (4.00 mm) crochet hook
- Tapestry needle
Gauge:
- 4.5” x 4.5” = 19 dcs x 9 rows
Terms/ stitches used:
- Fsc: foundation single crochet
- Ch: chain
- St: stitch
- Slip st: slip stitch
- Sc: single crochet
Notes:
- The pattern is worked in the round with a slip st into the first stitch into the last.
- The ch 1 at the beginning of the rows does not count as a stitch.
- You will need to know how to work into the back loop only for this pattern, the sides are worked into the back loop only.
- If you don’t work this pattern in the back loop only, it might end up leaning. You can block the finished item to make it lean less.
- This pattern is worked from the bottom up.
- All of the stitches in this pattern are single crochets, because of this the sides portion (where all the color changes are) only tells you how many stitches to do in what color, this is what the number in the parentheses means.
- Rather than changing, cutting, and weaving in the ends of all the colors, the yarn is carried through the cozy in the photos. Here’s a great tutorial on color changes. In this pattern, the active yarn is worked over the inactive.
- Color A is green, Color B is black, Color C is white, and Color D is blue.
Finished measurements:
- Height: 3.75
- Diameter: 4.25″ – 4.5″
Pattern instructions:
Row 1: Color A: Fsc 36 sts, slip st into the first st to secure – 36 fscs
Note: don’t forget to secure the side opposite the slip st with the tail.
Row 2: Ch, sc into the same st as join and into the next 35 sts, slip st into the first st to secure – 36 scs
Rows 3 – 4: Color A: Ch 1, (4), Color B: (1), Color A: (2), Color B: (1),* Color A: (8), Color B: (1), Color A: (2), Color B: (1),* repeat from * to * once more, Color A: (4), slip st into the first st to secure – 36 scs
Row 5: Color A: Ch 1, (3), Color B: (1), Color C: (4), Color B: (1), *Color A: (6), Color B: (1), Color C: (4), Color B: (1),* repeat from * to * once more, Color A: (3), slip st into the first st to secure – 36 scs
Fasten off Color B.

I love all your sheep items. I have a 11 year old granddaughter who says she cannot have a real sheep but these are just as good. She loves anything with sheeps on it.

This is so cute! with all the things I've crocheted, I've never made a cup cozy. This one may just be the first! I've been wanting to try this technique for a while (the charted pictures or whatever you call it!) and this looks so cute. thank you so much! (If you see my email, when I first saw your site, I thought you might be a distant relative - check the spelling....SOOO close! - but I'm frequently called what your site name implies....'cause folks don't bother to look at spelling....the mind sees what it expects, right?
