Hi there!
April is just finishing up today and I thought it’d be a great time to kick off my rainbow season! What better way to being a new season than with a new pattern, like this week’s Rainbow Waves Wall Hanging

If you’ve been around here in May or June you know I love a good Pride Month design. And this year I thought it’d be fun to kick off my 50% off Pride Month patterns in May, that way people have time to make their favorite pairs of earrings, coasters, or wall hangings for markets during May and June. Of course, you don’t need to just make rainbow items to sell, they also make great gifts for you and your loved ones. And that’s why I’m finishing off April with this new pattern.

Like nearly all my other wall hanging patterns, the Rainbow Waves Wall Hanging is worked from the bottom up in rows of single crochet stitches. Using Stitch Fiddle I designed this pattern as a tapestry/ intarsia project for people to customize as you’d like with colors in your stash. While I worked mine, I used a combination of techniques – I used separate skeins of color for the individual sections of color (picking them up and dropping them down the WS when not in use) and then crocheted over some spots, like when I pulled up a new color a few sts away. If you decide use bobbins for color work like this, be sure to work back and forth and not in a circle to try to keep the yarn from getting too tangled – here’s a video on Instagram showing what I mean.

Below the graph is available to view, that way if you’d like to make this as sc or hdc or dc you can do it… but you can also make it in C2C if you want to work the graph on a bias. And if you’d prefer you can knit, Tunisian crochet , and even cross stitch this design using the graph as well. It’s entirely up to you 😀 Just remember as you change your pick of stitch, it will kinda change the image a bit.

And in keeping with industry standards, if you’d like written instructions to this pattern you can pick those up in my Ravelry shop (it’s written in back and forth rows so it won’t help you with C2C). I separate patterns like this because I don’t make a ton off of patterns listed for free on my blog – I do have ads but with adblock type extensions, it’s not sustainable to make patterns with just ad revenue.

I was inspired to make this one from a background in an apartment of a character from the tv show Ponies, it was all done in tans and browns and I was like “cute, but I want it to be rainbow” and so here we are. One can never have too many rainbows, right?
I hope you like that pattern and remember to love and take care of each other. And don’t forget! During May – June I use the proceeds from the purchases of the pdfs and ad revenue to donate to The Trevor Project and Trans Lifeline. I also think that we should, when possible, move away from corporate Pride merch and instead make our own, keeping that in the community that supports us instead of the pockets of companies who turn their backs when the politics are no longer “popular.”

Please note: I was provided the yarn for this pattern by Lion Brand Yarn for the purposes of designing other patterns but I used the left over to make the Rainbow Waves Wall Hanging pattern, without compensation. I wasn’t provided the yarn with the expectations of positive or negative reviews but both yarns are fantastic worsted weight yarns to have in my stash.
