The Cute Tulips Wall Hanging Free Crochet Pattern – It’s a Spring Thing

My wall hanging collection is growing! In the last year I’ve made so many wonderful and colorful wall hangings and I think there is no stopping me. It’s absolutely feeding my soul. and this week’s new free pattern is no different, because it’s combining some of my favorite things – yarn, flowers, and art. Say hello to the Cute Tulips Wall Hanging crochet pattern.
With Spring here I knew I wanted to do a flower themed design. I love how poetic and colorful flowers can be, which makes them perfect for art and wall hangings. And tulips are just iconic for Spring, ya know? They really bring the feelings of newness, change, and growth with them. Pair that with some fun abstract movement in a brown background and a bright sun in the corner and I’m just a happy camper.
design really add movement and dimension to this piece. The way to make this is to work into the back bumps of the first row, that way you have two loops to work into for the fringe. Or you can do a foundation single crochet for your first row and have 2 loops for the fringe. Also feel free to make some rays on the sun or tassels/ pom poms (which is what I did), or whatever you’d like to really make this design pop. Or leave it simple. It’s all up to you!

As with all my crochet colorwork/ tapestry designs, you can work these in whatever way feels right to you. I have floats on the of this design in a couple spots (especially where I created the white spot on the heart) but for the most part I used bobbins for this pattern. And like I say often on Instagram, when it comes to how you work color it doesn’t matter what you call it, you do what feels good to you. I don’t ever follow just one technique to change and carry colors, sometimes I carry them for a couple sts and then drop the color altogether and work the rest of the way across the project. As long as you steam block (which I always do for colorwork) then it’s going to be a-OK. Don’t just take my word for it, give it a try yourself.

Materials

• US G (4.00 mm) crochet hook
• Worsted weight/ size #4 yarn
• I used Brava Worsted from WeCrochet
  • 6 colors
  • Less than 1 oz/ 62 yds each color
• Notions: scissors, measuring tape, yarn needle
• Wooden dowel/stick (more than 13″ across)

Gauge

• 17 sc x 20 rows = 4” (blocked)

Terms/ Stitches used

• Ch: Chain
• St: Stitch
• Sc: Single crochet
• RS: Right side

Notes

• As is industry standard, this pattern is just a free graph and not written instructions but you can purchase the pattern for a fee in my Ravelry shop.
• This pattern is worked from the bottom up, row by row with a turn at the beginning of the row. 
• The ch 1 at the beginning of the rows does not count as a stitch.
• The odd rows are the RS.
• This pattern doesn’t require you to carry the yarn, just use bobbins where necessary and change colors on the last pull through of the sc.

Top/Hanging
Row 81: B: From where you left off on Row 80, ch 1, turn, sc around the wooden dowel/ stick and into Row 80 across – 45 sc (feel free to change colors halfway across the row or just use B)
Row 82: Ch 70, skip the entire row, slip st into the first st  of Row 81 — 1 ch-70 space
Fasten off, weave in your ends.

Fringe (optional)
Feel free to add any details, such a fringe or surface crochet, to customize the final look of your wall-hanging.
