Hi everyone! How’s your July going? I was working on this blog post yesterday and had a moment of panic when I realized it was July 20th! Where did the month go? It feels like it’s just flying by and I still have so much I want to work on. So many new pattern ideas in my head that I don’t have the time to finish or even start for that matter. Ha! Luckily I made this design a month or two back and had it ready to release – say hello to the Erin Split-Back Cardigan!
This design is a variation of Erin Cocoon Shrug pattern I released back in April – which makes it an easy and open pattern you can make while watching Wynonna Earp all the way through for the 5th time (or maybe that’s just me :D). I do most of my crochet while “watching” tv – I don’t watch much tv but I do listen to a whole lot. What are you watching or “watching” right now?
So, as I was saying, this is part of the Erin Line – which means it’s open and lacy while still being substantial. I based it off of a design by my friend CoCoCrochetLee, her Split-Back Cardigan. I love how it worked up, a rectangle you just seam up for the sleeves, and how great it looks worn that as soon as I saw it I knew I wanted to make a cardigan in this design. It just looks so fun and unique, don’t you think? And it’s really easy to adjust by making the original rectangle longer – I’ve even included the multiple in the notes below so you can do just that.
I do so hope you like the Erin Split-Back Cardigan and give it a try. I think it goes well during these warmer months to have something to wrap around your shoulders at night or if you just want to dress up a tank top.

Fasten off, weave in your ends. Block your piece so it measures approx 48” x 15” (48” x 17”, 50” x 17”, 50” x 18.5”, 52” x 18.5”, 52” x 20.5”, 54” x 20.5”, 54” x 22”, 54” x 24”).
Seaming
Lay your piece flat and mark the middle 2 stitches on row 33 (37, 37, 41, 41, 45, 45, 49, 53). Fold the shorter edge of your piece until the first stitch of row 33 (37, 37, 41, 41, 45, 45, 49, 53) lines up with the closest stitch you marked, then fold the other sorter edge so that the last stitch of row 33 (37, 37, 41, 41, 45, 45, 49, 53) lines up with the closest stitch marker to it you marked. Begin from those stitch markers and their corresponding first and last stitches and seam toward the folds until you have approx 8” – 10” (16” – 20” total for the arm holes) unseamed, this will be your arm hole. If you’d like larger arm holes, leave more of the stitches unseamed. Weave in all your ends. See photo tutorial above for seaming help.
