Squishy Tree Ami crochet pattern by DivineDebris.com

Hi everyone! I hoep you’re doing well this week… I’m, cold. I’m actually writing this post with cold fingers because it’s starting to feel a bit like Winter in my home. I’m always thankful for a warm cup of coffee, but today even more so. That’s why I switched up my release schedule this week so I could put out my fun, squishy tree ami pattern you may have seen on my Instagram or Facebook pages. I love posting photos of things as I work on them but then people see things that won’t be out for weeks or even longer, and I hate that. Or maybe it increases people’s interest in keeping an eye on my work. I don’t know, I’m not particularly good at self-marketing.
So… anyway, this week’s design is a cute ami tree pattern. I was thinking about what I love to decorate with and, funny enough, my hubs and I don’t even put up a Christmas tree at our house. I think that’s what motivated me to make this design. 😀 I do hope you like it and give it a try when you get a chance. I purposely left this tree a bit bare so you could add your own decorations (pompoms or puffy paint garland), not unlike a regular tree.
Other new this week is that I’m participating in a huge Black Friday extravaganza-type thing with 19 other designers… so if you’re following me on FB you might want to stop by around noon tomorrow. I’ll update this post with more details tomorrow.

Materials

  • US G (4.00 mm) crochet hook
  • Aran/ medium/ size #4 weight yarn
  • Yarn needle

GaugeRavelry link

  • 4″ = 17 scs x 14 rows

Terms/stitches used:

  • Ch: chain
  • St: stitch
  • Slip st: slip stitch
  • Sc: single crochet
  • Sc2tog: single crochet 2 sts together
  • Fdc: foundation single crochet

Notes

  • This pattern is worked in 3 sections – each tree and then the border. The trees are worked back and forth in rows, with a turn at the beginning/ end of the row. The border is worked around the whole piece when both trees are completed.
  • The ch-1 at the beginning of the rows does not count as a stitch.
  • The trees are worked in 4 parts – each tier is worked then fastened off and the next one is worked on top of the previous. The stem is added after the tiers are finished.
  • You will need to know how to create a slipknot on your hook for this pattern.
  • You will need to know how to make a foundation single crochet to extend a row for this pattern.
  • The stitch counts at the end of the row counts both sc and sc2togs.
  • Color A is dark green (Caron One Pound in Forest Green | 1.1 oz/ 58.2 yds), color B is brown (Caron One Pound in Taupe | .1 oz/ 5 yds, and color C is off white (Caron One Pound in Off-White | .2 oz/ 10 yds ).

– Stem –

Flip your whole piece over and skip 15 sts from the end on row 1 (it doesn’t matter which end you pick), create a slipknot on your hook with color B and sc into the next 10 sts – 10 scs
Rows 2 – 8: B: Ch 1, turn, sc into the next 10 sts – 10 scs
Fasten off, weave in all your ends.

– Border –

Create 2 trees and stems (if you’re making a ami), line up the points of the tree and stem, you can use stitch markers to keep them together if you’d like. You need to go through both pieces for the border. You’re basically scing two pieces pieces together.
Create a slipknot on your hook with color B, start on the first row of the stem and sc up the row ends of the stem, ch 1 at the corner, sc across row 8, ch 1 at the corner, sc down the row ends of the stem – 24 scs
Fasten off with color B.
Note: before you close the ami all the way, stuff it with as much ami stuffing as you’d like.
With color C, pick up where you ended with color B and sc into the other side of row 1 on the tree (15 scs), ch 1 at the corner, sc into the row ends up the side of the tree (21 scs), sc into the under side of the second tier (5 scs), ch 1 at the point, sc up the edges of the second tier (21 scs), sc into the under side of the third tier (5 scs), ch 1 at the point, sc up the edges of the third tier (19 scs), sc into the 2 sts of row 61 (2 scs), sc down the edge on the other side of the third tier (19 scs), ch 1 at the point, sc into the under side of the third tier (5 scs), sc down the edge on the other side of the second tier (21 scs), ch 1 a the point, sc into the underside of the second tier (5 scs), sc down the edge on the other side of the first tier (21 scs), ch 1 at the point, sc into the next 15 sts of row 1 of the first row (15 scs), slip st into the first of the stem border – 174 scs, 4 ch-1 spaces
Fasten off, weave in your ends.

Tada! I hope you like this design and add your own personality and decorations to it!
