Hello March! It’s another week and another month in 2016. Because it is March, I’ve got another St. Pat’s Day pattern for you, this one is cute enough you could totally leave it out all year long. And if you’re like me, you probably will. I have the Candy Corn bag sitting on my kitchen counter right now (no joke). I’ve even got snowman candles sitting on my living room end table. Although… does that eclectic or lazy? I can’t decide. Either way, I hope you enjoy this pattern and don’t hate me for another graph design.

Materials:

Gauge:

  • 4.5” x 4.5” = 19 dcs x 9 rows

Terms/ stitches used:Ravelry link

  • Magic circle
  • Ch: chain
  • St:stitch
  • Slip st: slip st
  • Sc: single crochet

Notes:

  • This pattern is worked in 3 parts: the bottom, the sides and the handles.
  • This pattern is worked in the round, with a slip st into the first st following the last st of the row.
  • The ch 1 at the beginning of the row does not count as a stitch.
  • For this pattern you will need to know how to work into the back loop only.
  • The sides of the basket are worked in the back loop only, this provides a lot of flexibility to the finished product. If you’d like, you can just work the stitches as you normally would, it’ll make a firmer product.
  • All of the stitches in this pattern as single crochets, because of this the sides portion (where all the color changes are) only tells you how many stitches to do in what color, this is what the number in the parenthesis means.
  • Color A is green, Color B is white and Color C is orange in the pictures.
  • The instructions for the sides are shamrock 1, shamrock 2, shamrock 1, and shamrock 2.
  • You can make the handles taller by adding more rows following row 32.
  • Rather than changing, cutting, and weaving in the ends of all the colors, the yarn is carried through the bags in the photos. Here’s a great tutorial on color changes. In this pattern, the active yarn is worked over the inactive.

Finished measurements:

  • Height: 5.50″ – 6.50″(the handle’s height)
  • Diameter: 9.25″

Fasten off all colors, weave in your ends. I hope you like this pattern and take the chance to try it out. The colors are fun and easy to change, but you can do it in 2 colors and make the shamrocks really pop. I had the idea to changes the colors in a complex fashion and so I fear the shamrocks are a little obscured, but I like it so that’s sorta what counts, right? 😉

Also new this week is the Sally Bags pattern. You can purchase it for 50% off right now (the whole Sally line is on sale for 50% off until March 8th). Enter to win a copy of the pattern here.
