Happy third week of March everyone! Has Spring sprung where you are? It did here, without any warning. It was like 50-60 degrees last week and then this last weekend it just jumped up to 80 and hasn’t went down. I kind of wish it was a real Spring, I love those transition seasons. Don’t you?
Anyway… Here’s a new square. This one is a little less daring (in my opinion) as compared with last month’s square. Last month I was worried that the square was a bit too abstract but it ended up being a hit. I know I get in my head a lot but I was so very worried and you all were so nice about it. So thank you for liking February’s Square (I hope you like this month’s as much).
Like I was saying on Instagram, I was thinking about what Rob Gordon in High Fidelity said about making a mixtape “you do something to grab people, then you take it up a notch but you don’t want to over do it, so you take it down a notch.” And this month I’m taking it down a notch, with a simple cup repeat. This design leaves a lot of room for you to get creative with color (I almost made a Andy Warhol inspired one myself [four different colors], and I still might). I think this design would also make a nice hotpad for anyone in your life that likes tea or coffee 😀
I really hope you like this square and can’t wait for next month’s, it’s going to be wilder, for sure.

    Ravelry link

Terms/ Stitches used

  • RS: right side
  • Ch: chain
  • St: stitch
  • Slip st: slip stitch
  • Sc: single crochet

Notes

  • This pattern is worked flat back and forth in rows, with a turn at the beginning/end of the row, from the bottom up.
  • This square measures about 7.5″ unblocked and will come out with 8″ with a sc border (explained below). The photos do not feature a border.
  • The ch 1 at the beginning of the row does not count as a stitch.
  • Every stitch in this pattern is a single crochet. The directions will only tell you what color (ie: Color A, Color B, etc…) and the number in the parentheses tells you how many scs to make.
  • Your square may need some light blocking.
  • You will need to know how to create a slipknot on your hook for this pattern.
  • In the example, the inactive yarn is carried behind the active. If this is confusing, you might want to check out the helpful Moogly video on tapestry.
  • Color A is off-white (Caron One Pound in Off-White), color B is blue (Caron One Pound in Royalty), and color C is purple (Caron One Pound in Lavender Blue).
