A Tribute to Jasper Johns

Hi again! How’s your Tuesday going? Oh, me? Just the same. 😀
So for this week’s design I had two ideas, the next one you’ll see next week, but today’s is a mug cozy that goes a bit patriotic if you’re in the US (hence the title of the post). The fourth is next week and I felt like designing something for the occasion, last week’s design could be in the same realm of patriotic, but if you’re not into that, feel free to just make a fun travel cozy out of star! It’d be pretty I’d image.
Oh, and this is a link to Jasper Johns’ Wiki article. I’ve got an art history degree and so on the occasion I get to use it, I jump to the opportunity. 😀

If you appreciate my weekly patterns, please consider purchasing the Stars and Stripes Mug Cozy pdf in my Ravelry shop for $.50 to help me bring more patterns to my blog.

Notes:

  • This cozy is worked the round, with a slip st into the first st after the last in the row.
  • The ch 1 at the beginning of the rows does not count as a stitch.
  • Feel free to replace the first row, of foundation single crochets, with just a chain and single crochet row.
  • Color A is blue, Color B is white, and Color C is red.
  • Rather than changing, cutting, and weaving in the ends of all the colors, the yarn is carried through the bags in the photos. Here’s a great tutorial on color changes. In this pattern, the active yarn is worked over the inactive.
  • You will need to know how to work into the back loop only for this pattern, the sides are worked into the back loop only.
  • All of the stitches in this pattern as single crochets, because of this the sides portion (where all the color changes are) only tells you how many stitches to do in what color, this is what the number in the parenthesis means.
  • The first st of the row is worked into the same space as join.
  • If you just want a cozy with a bunch of stars, feel free to crochet rows 1 – 8 and then 2 – 8 for two repeats of the star section.

Finished measurements:

  • Height: 4.25″
  • Diameter: 3.25″
