A Blanket for Ellie

Hi everyone! Now, if you’ve been following me on Instgram for a while you probably heard last year that my brother and his wife were expecting a new baby. This last week, that baby made her first appearance and I’m so over joyed. How cool is it that bodies do what they do?

Anyway, as soon as they told me that I was going to be an auntie I got to thinking about stuff to make. Joann Fabrics was nice enough to send me a big box of baby yarn and that helped me decide, the first thing I made was a baby blanket. This baby blanket. I wanted to combine Tunisian and traditional crochet again to make something super cute (in my opinion) and actually pretty easy (although it took me a while to make because that bulky yarn is rough on the hands). I wanted a simple pattern that didn’t have too many holes (which I’ve heard are bad news for tiny fingers and toes), so I went with a basket weave looking design for this pattern. Personally, I’m very happy with ow it turned out.

I sent the blanket out with my mom when she visited but I haven’t heard from the baby yet as to whether or not she likes it. Ha!
Now this pattern is super easy to adjust and make bigger if you’d like to make an afghan or a bedspread – the multiple is listed in the notes but you just increase by 5 each row. I added a nice border because I like when edges look clean, ya know? Honestly, you could make this pattern with any yarn you have on hand, you just need to adjust the hook to suit your needs.

  • This pattern is worked in 2 sections: the Main Body and the Border. The Main Body is worked back and forth in rows and the Border is worked in the round with a slip st into the first st.
  • This pattern can be made with any yarn and hook combo, you would need to adjust to make sure the pattern lays flat. The border will help your Main Body be flat.
  • The multiple for this pattern is 5 – you can make this blanket larger or smaller by adding or subtracting 5.
  • As with Tunisian patterns, each row in the instructions below have a forward pass and a return pass.
  • Skip the first vertical bar (the beginning of the row).
  • The ch-1 at the beginning of the Border rnds does not count as a stitch.
