Happy almost first day of Summer, everyone! That’s tomorrow or the next day, right? I just can’t tell, I’ve been traveling so much it all seems the same, hot. 🙂 I like warm weather though, it’s a great time of year for crocheting little things! I know a lot of people don’t know what to make during the Spring and Summer months because fiber arts are so heavily associated with warm and cozy, but I have always loved little crochet things like jewelry and cup cozies that I’m always busy, no matter the season. That’s what inspired me to make this design – something fun and quick to make during the Summer that’s useful for all your hot or cold beverages. Also, what’s more Summer than Watermelons? I have a few other Watermelon designs, even one coming out next month for the TSAP project, because they’re just one of my favorite design styles for Summer. I’m even going to plop my Watermelon Pillow on my couch in my new living room! That’s how much I love a good watermelon design 🙂
I do hope you like this design! It’s another fun and quick mug cozy design I just can’t get enough of.

Materials
- US G (4.00 mm) crochet hook
- Aran/ medium/ size #4 weight yarn
- approx .4 oz/ 24 yds
- I used Bernat Super Value
- Yarn needle
Gauge
- 16 scs x 14 rows = 4″
Terms/ stitches
- RS: right side (side that faces out)
- Ch: chain
- St: stitch
- Slip st: slip stitch
- Sc: single crochet
- BLO: back loop only
Notes
- This pattern is worked in the round, from the bottom up, with a slip st into the first st of the row.
- The ch 1 at the beginning of the row does not count as a stitch.
- All of the stitches in this pattern are single crochets. The directions will only tell you what color (ie: Color A, Color B, etc…) and the number in the parentheses tells you how many single crochets to make.
- In the example, the inactive yarn is carried behind the active. If this is confusing, you might want to check out this helpful Moogly video on tapestry.
- You need to know how to work into the back loop only (BLO) for this pattern. At the end of the row, slip st into both loops, this will help keep your seam straight.
- If you don’t work this pattern in the back loop only, it might end up leaning. You can block the finished item to make it lean less.
- Add some Puffy Paint to the inside of your cozy to give it a non-slip texture.
- In the photos: color A is pink (Bernat Super Value in Peony Pink), color B is black (Bernat Super Value in Black), color C is white (some misc stash color), color D is darker green (Bernat Super Value in Lush), and Color E is lighter green (Bernat Super Value in Grass).
